It Will Never Make Sense – Meaning Will Be Assigned But Not Inherent

Apparent culprit now in hand, the assassination of Charlie Kirk is rapidly evolving into one of those pivotable events that everyone will try to make sense of and onto which everyone will try and impress some meaning – but in which, inherently, there is no sense, no meaning.  The NYPost yesterday tried, briefly, to make it about Mormonism, but there is nothing there.  Some say it is about politics, some say about religion.  Some celebrate Kirk, some celebrate Christ, and some are just ugly.  All of it alienates me.

One man killed another.  That will never make sense.  Motivation does not matter – it is just an evil act.  I have worked my whole life to be good – I do not want to understand evil – I just want to know how to spot it and either avoid it, or stop it.

Any meaning we try to assign to these events is, in some sense, an expression of narcissism – it is an effort to build a mental framework we can stand on to simply cope with the evil.  But if we need to build such a framework we are missing the point.

Jesus said:

“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?  And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span?  And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!  Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’  For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.

“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

He taught us to pray, “…deliver us from evil.”

The Apostle Paul wrote:

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We don’t need sense, we don’t need meaning – We need to love of God and the faith to let Him provide for us.  God is our sense, God is our meaning and He is sufficient.

Moving On – Slowly.

How not to solve the problems that lead to the Kirk Assassination.

Can we now think about things like this?

I am agnostic on the entire vaccine debate.  Grateful for the polio vaccine I received as a child, but not quite getting “vaccines” of more modern origin that don’t seem to be as definitive as the Salk vaccine.  That said, covid was, and remains, an exercise in mass hysteria, stupidity and gross government overreach.  Here’s proof.  Here’s a worry.

SCIENCE!  This is cool – just take my word for it.  If it reads like science fiction, it probably is – don’t do it.

Ah, Los Angeles – this gift that just keeps on giving.

And now – College Football Saturday.  Time to enjoy having the TV on again.
