Vice President JD Vance departed early Friday aboard Air Force Two, heading into high-stakes negotiations in Pakistan aimed at winding down the war with Iran.
“We’re looking forward to negotiation. I think it’s going to be positive,” Vance told reporters before takeoff at Joint Base Andrews.
The trip marks the latest U.S. push to translate battlefield pressure into a diplomatic off-ramp.

Vance made clear that the tone heading into talks will depend on Tehran’s approach.
“As the president of the United States said, if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we’re certainly willing to extend the open hand,” he said.
But the warning was just as direct.
“If they’re going to try to play us, then they’re going to find the negotiating team is not that receptive.”
