Kansas Judge Allows Pro-Abortion Lawsuit to Move Forward

A Shawnee County judge has allowed a lawsuit brought by an abortion clinic in Wichita to move forward. The case seeks to strike down Kansas’ long-standing physician-only requirement for dispensing abortion drugs, one of the few remaining medical safeguards protecting women in our state.

This cruel lawsuit is designed to further loosen medical safeguards over abortion franchises and puts women at greater risk. A recent study by The Ethics and Public Policy Center shows that more than 1 in 10 women who take the abortion pill require emergency-room treatment — underscoring why physician-only protections matter.

At the same time, the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing a major pro-life case: First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin. New Jersey officials issued sweeping subpoenas demanding years of private donor and volunteer information from pregnancy resource centers, a move widely seen as an effort to chill and intimidate their life-affirming work.

Kansas lawmakers will have an opportunity in the upcoming legislative session to strengthen protections for Kansas centers. KFL will release our full 2026 legislative agenda soon. Stay tuned for details.
