Leo XIV Welcomes U.S.-Iran Two-Week Ceasefire

Yesterday, Pope Leo  XIV welcomed the announcement of a two week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a sign of hope amid intense Middle East tensions and urging the international community to combine diplomatic efforts with prayer and dialogue to pursue lasting peace. In prepared remarks delivered in Italian at today’s general audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope said, in part: “I urge that this period of delicate diplomatic work be accompanied by prayer, hoping that openness to dialogue may become the means to resolve other conflict situations in the world.”
