If Mamdani wins, he’ll have done it without the support of the Dems’ favorite POTUS.
Democratic nominee and proud socialist Zohran Mamdani scrambled to downplay Barack Obama’s conspicuous silence just one day before New York’s high-stakes mayoral vote.
“I appreciated the call with President Obama and his support for the movement that we have created,” Mamdani told reporters in City Hall Park early Monday, trying to spin what sounded like a brush-off.
“I appreciated his words. I appreciated his time, and I appreciate this movement for putting us on the brink of delivering us a new city in this place,” the Queens lawmaker added — in a rambling defense that raised more questions than it answered.
Obama, meanwhile, spent the weekend stumping in New Jersey for gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill — but never set foot in New York City to back Mamdani.
Instead, the two men spoke briefly by phone, though no details emerged about what was said.
Team Mamdani claimed the former president simply had bigger fish to fry — that endorsing in the mayoral race was beneath him. But the record tells another story: Obama endorsed Bill de Blasio in 2013.
This time? Not even a photo op.
