Ohio Planned Parenthood Will Fire More Employees After Defunding

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, reeling from federal defunding measures that have slashed taxpayer support for the abortion giant, announced plans Tuesday to eliminate another 14 to 15 positions.

The second round of layoffs at the abortion business in less than two months underscores the consequences of redirecting funds away from the industry that profits from killing babies.

The affiliate, which operates 12 centers, two ambulatory surgical centers and a virtual health entity across the state, notified staff and management of the impending cuts on November 4, citing a steep decline in customer volume after losing Medicaid reimbursements.

Medicaid patients had comprised 40% of Planned Parenthood customers, and their exodus has gutted revenues, forcing the abortion company to “get as lean as we can possibly go,” according to President and CEO Erica Wilson-Domer.

“We kind of held on as long as we could while we could see Medicaid patients,” Wilson-Domer said, adding, “There are just places now where it doesn’t make sense to keep the staffing level where it was.”

The cuts come amid a $10 million funding hole since President Donald Trump’s second inauguration, including $2 million in lost Title X family planning dollars and ongoing battles over state Medicaid eligibility. The abortion group is appealing an Ohio Department of Medicaid notice proposing to terminate its state taxpayer funds, tied to the federal restrictions.

Larger centers, such as those in the Columbus area, will see staffing slashed though all facilities will remain open. This follows September’s wave of layoffs, when the abortion affiliate axed 21 jobs — nearly 10% of its workforce — including 18 unionized positions and three non-union roles, to stem a projected $10 million revenue shortfall from the same defunding policies.

Those earlier cuts, finalized after a month of tense union negotiations, were projected to save more than $1.3 million annually and capped two years of executive belt-tightening, including over $2 million in payroll reductions through consolidations and pay trims for senior leaders.

Union members, represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 98, had urged abortion biz leaders to accept 25% pay cuts to spare frontline jobs, but the plea fell flat as Planned Parenthood executives want their paychecks.

For pro-life champions, the successive firings are a resounding affirmation that defunding works — starving the abortion behemoth of the public dollars that fuel its assembly-line termination of babies’ lives.
