Omar Calls Inquiries Into Marital History “Sick,” Responds to Allegations of Immigration Fraud

Far-left Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota is madder than a jihadi with a dull scimitar at a beheading.

The Somali Muslim refugee is fuming that her incestuous marriage to her brother is news again, following border czar Tom Homan’s announcement that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating her for immigration fraud.

Homan spoke after Omar’s marital shenanigans resurfaced on X. Tesla tycoon and X proprietor Elon Musk brought up the subject, as did President Donald Trump, who also accused her of immigration fraud for the consanguineous marriage.

Such inquiries are “sick,” she told Fox News. Maybe, but she might also have run afoul of at least three laws, Texas’ GOP Senator Ted Cruz told the network.

Background

Omar’s nuptial resumé is complex, and has been the subject of multiple reports that show she married her brother.

In 2019, PJ Media editor David Steinberg unraveled Omar’s multiple relationships and living arrangements with two men, one of whom was her brother. In 2020, the Daily Mail followed with an exposé that cited a top Somali source in Minneapolis, Abdihakim Osman.

Osman told the Mail that Omar admitted she would “do what she had to do to get [Elmi] ‘papers’ to keep him in [the] U.S.” As well, Osman told the Mail, “she said she needed to get papers for her brother to go to school. We all thought she was just getting papers to allow him to stay in this country.”

That would mean Omar, who denies the consanguineous marriage, committed student-loan fraud, another suspicion among those who’ve looked into her shady past. 

Omar, the Mail reported, married Ahmed Hirsi in 2002. She supposedly separated in 2008 from Hirsi to marry Elmi in 2009. But as Steinberg reported, the three lived together in North Dakota.

Continued the Mail:

Elmi and Omar married on February 12, 2009 at a Hennepin County office in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, southwest of Minneapolis, their marriage license shows. Omar said she and Hirsi [her first husband] had separated in 2008, and because their faith-based union was never recognized by law, neither is their separation.

Elmi and Omar said they lived together at an address in Columbia Heights, a suburb on the north side of the city.

The marriage was conducted by Christian minister Wilecia Harris. When DailyMail.com approached her last year, she would not discuss the ceremony or why a Muslim couple would have asked her to marry them.

Despite the new marriage, Omar and Hirsi — the man she “divorced” to marry Elmi — “were still together as husband and wife,” Osman explained.

Now, Omar is married to political consultant Tim Mynett, having wrecked his marriage to a prominent doctor. Her campaign shoveled millions into Mynett’s political consultancy.

Omar became a citizen in 2000.

Inquiries Are Sick

Nothing much came of this baffling story until Trump repeatedly spoke about it, most recently in Pennsylvania. “We oughtta get her the hell out!” Trump said. “She married her brother in order to get in!”

In fact, it was the other way around: She married her brother to get him in. That aside, Musk reposted Fox talker Laura Ingraham’s to the Daily Mail report. “This is morally and legally wrong,” he averred.

Homan stepped into the picture during an interview on NewsNation. A fraud investigator who reviewed Omar’s file, Homan said, confirmed that “there was immigration fraud involved.”

But the border czar didn’t stop there. “[We’re] pulling the records, [we’re] pulling the files,” he said:

We’re looking at it. But this fraud investigator who I know personally, one of the best fraud investigators in HSI (Homeland Security Investigations), said there’s no doubt. He reviewed the file. So I’m running that down this week … and we’ll see.

Nothing has come of it yet, but Omar might just be worried her charade is nearly over.

When Fox News asked her about it, she at first feigned ignorance.

“Any response to what [Homan] is saying? And the public?” a reporter asked.

Replied Omar: I have no response because I don’t know what they’ll be investigating.

Fox: So you don’t think they would find anything?

Omar: Absolutely not.

Fox: Why do you think they keep bringing this up?

Omar: Because they’re sick!

Omar did not diagnose the illness that has befallen the curious.

Fox also spoke to Cruz.

“If this is true, then Omar faces criminal liability under three different statutes,” he told Fox:

Cruz has argued that Omar could have committed federal marriage fraud, which makes knowingly entering into a marriage to evade immigration laws illegal, and could result in up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and deportation. …

In addition to marriage fraud, Cruz said Omar could also be breaking Minnesota’s state incest law, a felony in the state punishable by jail time up to 10 years. Cruz also indicated Omar could be liable for tax fraud, specifically if joint tax returns were filed while she was not legally married, a violation that could lead to a $100,000 fine and up to three years in prison.

If Homan is right — that “there’s no doubt” she married her brother — the administration still may not move to deport her.

Despite Homan’s repeated promises to arrest and charge sanctuary city officials with harboring illegal aliens — a violation of 8 U.S. Code 1324 — federal prosecutors have not done so. In August, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi warned sanctuary officials they had better prove they are complying with federal immigration law.
