Planned Parenthood Closes Down Its Louisiana Abortion Centers

The Planned Parenthood abortion business will close two centers in Louisiana today – making it so the southern state is totally free of the nation’s biggest abortion business.

Both Planned Parenthood facilities in Louisiana will close their doors effective today.

Notably, the New Orleans facility was constructed with the stated goal of becoming a regional abortion center, intending to perform nearly 2,844 abortions per year. With Louisiana banning abortions and a new federal law defunding Planned Parenthood, babies across the state are protected and that goal was not achieved.

The abortion giant operated in the state for 40 years before the announcement.

Melaney Linton, the president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, blamed the political push against the radical abortion business for the closure of the clinics in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director of Louisiana Right to Life, celebrated the news in comments to LifeNews.

“Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry are leaving Louisiana. But the pro-life movement is here to stay. We will always love and serve both mom and baby,” he said.

His group is holding diaper drives today to provide real support for pregnant woman and their babies.

Today, Louisiana Right to Life will commemorate the closure of Planned Parenthood’s facilities in New Orleans and Baton Rouge by hosting its “Love Them Both Diaper Drive” to provide real support for moms and babies.

  • New Orleans: Tues. September 30, outside Planned Parenthood, 4636 S Claiborne Ave, New Orleans, LA 70125 from 11 AM – 1 PM.
  • Baton Rouge (together with Louisiana Black Advocates for Life): Tues. September 30, at the Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Life Center, 1800 S. Acadian Thruway, Baton Rouge, LA 70808 from 11 AM – 1 PM.

Erica Inzina, J.D., Policy Director of Louisiana Right to Life, said the following:

“Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have already collected over 20,000 diapers that will later be given to moms and babies in need. The diaper drive underscores our mission to provide tangible and compassionate service to women.”

“When Planned Parenthood opened in New Orleans, they declared their goal was to commit 2,844 abortions in Louisiana each year. Tomorrow, we will celebrate life prevailing. Thankfully, real comprehensive healthcare is still available across the New Orleans and Baton Rouge communities.”

A listing of healthcare alternatives to Planned Parenthood is available at www.ProLifeLouisiana.org/careoptions.

Clapper continued:

“Planned Parenthood is a national abortion business that has long sought to bring its abortion agenda to Louisiana. Today’s announcement is further indication that their priority has always been abortion and their profit margins rather than helping women. Planned Parenthood could easily remain in Louisiana to provide healthcare to women if it just chose to stop performing abortions. But their focus is always more abortion. As they leave, we know that women will continue to have access to healthcare in Louisiana, whether for comprehensive needs or when facing an unplanned pregnancy.”

According to its latest annual report, Planned Parenthood committed over 400,000 abortions across the nation. Additionally, it has spent over $1 million in Louisiana and Texas to transport women to other states for abortions, while aggressively promoting dangerous abortion pills by mail. Meanwhile, its non-abortion health services have continued to decline nationwide—even as abortion numbers increase.

Louisiana Right to Life affirms its ongoing commitment to supporting women facing unplanned pregnancies. With more than 30 pregnancy resource centers statewide, along with numerous public and private healthcare providers, women have access to compassionate care, medical services, and real support.

As Planned Parenthood exits Louisiana, Louisiana Right to Life urges the public to remain vigilant.

Clapper concluded: “The pro-life movement is not going anywhere. We must continue to protect vulnerable lives and support mothers and families. We thank all those who have prayed, worked, and given tirelessly to make this day a reality. This is your victory, and most importantly, it’s a victory for life.”
