Pope answers questions about migrants, Venezuela, Rupnik trial

On the question of the Chicago detention facility where inmates were refused the Eucharist, Pope Leo prefaced his remarks by noting how, at his Mass at a Rome cemetery on November 1, the Gospel reading was from Matthew 25 with its litany of feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, and clothing the naked. The Lord says, “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” On the question of President Trump’s deployment of warships off the Venezuelan coast, Pope Leo said, “I think that with violence, we don’t win.” And on the upcoming Rupnik trial, he said: “I know it’s very difficult for the victims to ask that they be patient, but the church needs to respect the rights of all people.”
