Republican Legislator Claims Killing Babies in Abortions is “Supporting Families”

A pro-abortion Republican Kentucky lawmaker made history by becoming the first from her party to address a Planned Parenthood rally.

At the event, she claimed that killing babies in abortions is somehow “supporting families.”

That’s a stance pro-life advocates condemn as defending the killing of unborn children under the guise of family planning.

Rep. Vanessa Grossl, R-Georgetown, spoke Thursday at the 2026 Planned Parenthood rally held at the Capitol Education Center. The rally, attended by just 40 people, highlighted condemnation of Kentucky’s abortion ban that is saving babies and helping women.

Grossl, a past Planned Parenthood patient who grew up in Eastern Kentucky as the daughter of a teen mom, told the crowd: “supporting families means ensuring they have the tools to plan their own futures.” She didn’t say if she got an abortion or how or why killing babies helps families.

She added that “the ability to control one’s own fertility” is “at the very heart” of the right to pursue happiness, ignoring the fact that you don’t have to end a baby’s life to control your own fertility.

Grossl further stated: “In my party, we pride ourselves in limited government and individual liberty, and there is no greater liberty than the right to make your own health care decisions without a bureaucrat standing between you and your doctor.”

Yet, limited government should focus on protecting people’s lives, not ending them.

The rally also featured pro-abortion Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear via video, who said: “Whether you’re a woman, a person of color or a member of our LGBTQ+ community, you deserve quality health care, and even more important, you deserve the freedom and the right to make your own choices about the health care you receive.”
