Singer Zara Larsson Defends Killing Babies in Abortions

Pop singer Zara Larsson, who is especially popular among Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences, has recently made headlines after a comment about abortion that many people found disturbing.

The controversy began when a fan posted a video on TikTok saying she attended one of Larsson’s concerts while unknowingly pregnant. In the video, the fan said she was glad the baby heard Larsson perform before she later aborted the child.

Larsson responded to the post with a comment that shocked many viewers.

“I killed the performance and then you killed it after the performance purrrrrr.”

The fan replied, “I LOVE YOU GIRL OMGG.”

Larsson is not the first celebrity with a large following among young people to openly support abortion. Another notable example is singer and actress Olivia Rodrigo, known for her music career and for starring in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. At one of her concerts, Rodrigo distributed free Plan B and other contraceptives along with information encouraging support for Planned Parenthood.

However, Larsson’s comment did not receive universal praise. Even many people who support abortion said they were uncomfortable with joking about it.

One viewer commented, “No for real people are coming at me for saying this joke was insensitive. Im pro choice and I still didnt find this funny.”

Another commenter wrote, “Feminism has absolutely destroyed society. How are we so disconnected from morality?”

Instead of apologizing, Larsson doubled down on her remarks.

In a follow-up video on TikTok, she defended the joke and criticized those who objected to it.

“Sorry, that’s funny. Like, I don’t know what to say. That’s funny. Sorry if you don’t have humor.”

In the full video response, she explained her reasoning.

“Why do you feel like abortion is only okay when it’s a very hard decision, when it’s something that women have to struggle with going through? When it’s emotionally or physically painful? Why does that make it morally superior than someone just wanting an abortion for whatever reason? Why is it only morally okay when women have to suffer?”

“So if you are in this, like, ‘I’m pro choice, if the woman’s been raped.’ No, baby. If you are pro-choice, you have to be pro-choice always,” the singer said. “I feel like joking about stuff like that, a ‘serious topic,’ it also makes it something that we can just talk about. It doesn’t have to be taboo. It doesn’t have to be this bad thing that women do.”

She also criticized Texas laws protecting unborn children.

“I’ve seen so many cases about this in Texas, where women want their children, and they have to do abortions because they will not live outside of the womb, and they can’t have it because of the f*****g policies around it,” she said. “Let’s just make more jokes. So, like, the f***? Abortion is healthcare. What can I say? And it’s not better because women have to suffer. Mwah!”

Pro-Life advocates say comments like these reflect a troubling trend online. Abortion is increasingly discussed casually on social media, even joked about, despite the reality that it ends the life of a baby in the womb.

Research has shown that repeated exposure to violence can make people more comfortable with violent behavior over time. Studies have suggested that people exposed to violent content at younger ages are more likely to display violent behavior later in Life. When young audiences repeatedly see abortion treated as normal or humorous, it can contribute to a culture that becomes more accepting of the violence abortion involves.

It is also important to address claims about Texas law.

A woman in Texas can receive medical treatment if her life is in danger during pregnancy. Texas law has never prohibited physicians from intervening when a mother faces a life-threatening condition.

Both the Texas Medical Board and the Supreme Court of Texas have clearly stated that a woman does not need to be at death’s door for treatment to be legal. The policy states that treatment is allowed where there exists “a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that, as certified by a physician, places the woman in danger of death or a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless an abortion is performed.”

For many Pro-Life advocates, the deeper issue raised by this controversy is how society talks about the value of human life. Every precious baby has inherent dignity and worth, and the way culture speaks about abortion shapes how the next generation understands the value of Life.
