Speaker Mike Johnson told Fox News on Wednesday that Republicans will expand their slim 218-215 House majority in the 2026 midterms because they are delivering on promises like economic growth.
According to historical trends, the president’s party loses an average of 26 seats.
Even so, Johnson is “very bullish” on his midterms outlook.
“I can’t wait. I am convinced we’re going to grow the House majority for the Republican Party and keep this majority because we have a great record to run on,” Johnson told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer.
“Democrats are in total disarray; that’s gonna get worse as we get close to the election. We had a demographic shift in 2024; we’ll hold those new voters. We’re delivering on our promises. Promises made, promises kept. People reward that when they go to the ballot. We are very excited. We’re going to defy history, and Republicans are gonna stay in charge here.”
