Straining Reason – The Hugh Hewitt Show

The host excoriated legacy media in a tweet late last night, “But Western legacy media is united in explaining why this is a bad idea for America. The progressive left, especially in Western legacy media, lacks even a small iota of awareness that they are in effect the embedded ambassadors of this evil, despotic regime.”  How does that happen?  It happens when the desire to “win,” in this case the political fight with the right on whatever issue, overrides reason.  (As we have discussed here this week, there simply is no reason in supporting Iran in any way shape or form.)  There were two prominent examples this week.

For example, in Indiana:

Judge Christina R. Klineman ruled that the state’s 2022 abortion law violates Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act by substantially burdening the religious exercise of the plaintiffs. The class includes members of Hoosier Jews for Choice and others whose beliefs hold that a woman’s mental or physical health takes precedence over the right to life of an unborn child. Never mind that abortions have been linked for decades to depression, suicide and adverse mental health problems.

I doubt most readers remember the huge kerfuffle over Indiana’s RFRA back when Mike Pence was a rising star and governor of that state.  There is more at play here than simply straining reason for the sake of obtaining abortions.  This is a poke in the eye to all those that supported the RFRA to be begin with.  But what matters here is that reason is strained to its very limits.

And while we are straining reason, it emerges this week, in congressional testimony that federal dollars were spent during the Biden administration to make “maps more gay.”  “How do you make a map more gay?” you may rightfully ask.  No one knows – and thus reason is again strained to its limits.  But in this case its not strained for a political victory, it is strained for a handout.  This is simply straight-up fraud.

Which brings me to this discussion of the mess in California:

The pattern is simple.

Spend expansively. Measure loosely. Promise morally. Deliver inconsistently.

The issue is not the stated goals. The issue is the absence of discipline.

In each case, the rhetoric was noble. The result was dysfunction.

This is the governing model Kamala Harris rose within, and Gavin Newsom refined over time. Not because they lack intelligence, but because the system they represent rewards virtue signaling over measurable performance.

Reason is strained because reason is not rewarded.  Reason measures performance, strained reason measure virtue signaling.  I would say it is all about California being the place where fantasy is brought to life in motion pictures, but then that industry is leaving the state as fast as it can.

Which brings me to this week’s dose of California news.

In that state the elite prep schools hide dark secrets.  They must keep up appearances after all.

In that state they do not respect the Supreme Court.  You have to stand somewhere when you are antisemitic and want to run for POTUS.

Meanwhile there are concerns that all the Dems looking to replace Newsom the Horrible are forming a circular firing squad.  One can hope and pray, although there would still be the legislature to contend with – which is where the last ostensibly Republican governor showed he was far tougher in the movies than in actuality.

The rest of the pile:

Government subsidies do not a market place make.  Some day, our so-called elites will figure that out.

Solar power and batteries – not the panacea they like to say they are.  Let’s not forget all those EV fires.

FINAL NOTE – turn your clocks back tonight before you go to bed.  Then struggle to stay awake at church tomorrow.
