Texas Democrat James Talarico Says Bible Supports Killing Babies in Abortions

James Talarico, a Texas lawmaker, won the Democratic race to run for U.S. Senate. As a Democrat, he strongly supports abortion. What has surprised many Texans is not just his position, but the way he defends it. He says the Bible supports his view.

Talarico grew up in a Christian Presbyterian church and often talks about his faith. But his explanation of Scripture ignores what the Bible teaches about the value of Life, especially the lives of babies in the womb.

Around the time the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, allowing Texas to protect preborn children, Talarico preached a sermon that focused almost entirely on abortion.

He said, “This summer, more than half our population became second-class citizens. Every one of our neighbors with a uterus became the property of the state. And nothing, nothing is more un-Christian than that.”

Instead of preaching about a Bible passage or God’s love and truth, his message centered on defending the murder of preborn babies.

Talarico has also repeated something his mother told him: “Women will never be free until they belong to themselves.” But the Bible teaches the opposite. Scripture says we are not our own. We belong to God. True freedom comes from following Him, not from putting ourselves first.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

He has also argued that “The Bible does not mention abortion,” and said that Jesus never spoke about it. But just because the word “abortion” is not used does not mean the Bible is silent about Life. Over and over, Scripture shows that God cares deeply about children in the womb. The Bible says God forms us in the womb and knows us before we are born. That means preborn babies are not invisible to Him. They are created in His image.

In comments connected to a discussion involving Joe Rogan on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, Talarico also suggested that Mary, the mother of Jesus, had a choice in whether to carry her pregnancy. But the Bible describes Mary’s response as trust and obedience to God’s plan, not a debate about “personal autonomy.”

At the heart of this debate is a simple question: Does the Bible support ending the life of a child? For Christians who believe every life is made in God’s image, the answer is clear.

As this Senate race continues, Texas voters will have to decide whether they agree with Talarico’s view that abortion can be defended with Scripture or whether they believe the Bible calls us to protect life at every stage, including in the womb.
