Texas Democrats gathered with Planned Parenthood leaders in Chicago on Wednesday to express gratitude for how it kills the babies of Texas residents who travel there for abortions.
The event, held amid ongoing political tensions over abortion laws, highlighted Illinois’ emergence as a hub for out-of-state abortions since Texas implemented an abortion ban that protects women and their babies.
At a news conference, Texas state Rep. Lauren Ashley Simmons, representing parts of Houston, joined Planned Parenthood of Illinois interim President and CEO Tonya Tucker to underscore the organization’s efforts to kill more babies.

Tucker noted that Planned Parenthood of Illinois began seeing Texas customers in 2021, following the state’s ban on abortion, stating, “I am so appreciative of Planned Parenthood Illinois for providing the care that women need.”
The gathering comes as Texas continues its fight against abortion, with the state Senate recently voting to stop the distribution of what pro-life advocates call “dangerous abortion pills.”
According to a report from LifeNews, the Texas Senate passed legislation aimed at curbing the use of abortion-inducing drugs, reflecting the state’s commitment to protecting unborn children. The move builds on Texas’ earlier actions, including removing Planned Parenthood from its Medicaid program in 2021, a decision cited by Planned Parenthood leaders as evidence of the state’s restrictive policies.
The Texas Democrats’ collaboration with Planned Parenthood has drawn sharp criticism from pro-life organizations, who argue the event celebrates a practice that takes innocent lives. Meanwhile, the state’s legislative efforts to restrict abortion pills signal a broader strategy to uphold its pro-life stance, even as Democrats seek to counter these measures from out of state.
