The Brew: Britain to Eliminate Jury Trials. Move Along, Nothing to See Here

Great Britain, our mother country, the Mother of Parliaments, home of the Magna Carta and the first Bill of Rights, has already suppressed most of the liberties we Americans inherited from Britain and now take for granted. Freedom of speech? No, that had to be suppressed to stop natives from complaining about immigration — and now dozens of Britons are arrested every day for mentioning the impact of Pakistani rape gangs on lives of British women.

Freedom of religion? That’s also not really cricket, since Christians who stand near abortion clinics can be imprisoned for silently praying inside their heads.

Gun rights? The Brits granted them to ordinary citizens back in 1690 to help them defend their religious freedom, but now women can’t even carry pepper spray to use against rapists.

The last nostalgic remnant of English liberties, trial by jury, is now in the cross-hairs of the far-Left, pro-Muslim government that clings to power in Britain. The BBC reports:

Justice Secretary David Lammy is proposing to massively restrict the ancient right to a jury trial by only guaranteeing it for defendants facing rape, murder, manslaughter or other cases passing a public interest test.

An internal government briefing, produced by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) for all other Whitehall departments, confirms plans to create a new tier of jury-less courts in England and Wales.

The new courts would deal with most crimes currently considered by juries in Crown Court.

But the MoJ said no final decision had been taken by the government.

Juries are to be scrapped in all cases except murder, rape and manslaughter, David Lammy is to announce.

England has had juries datiing back 1200 years.

But Britons shouldn’t worry about decisions like this, since their judicial elites can 100% be trusted to hold to the highest standards of ethics:

Judge Throws Out Jury Verdict on Somalian Who Bilked Taxpayers

But who are we to throw stones? Our own home-grown, all-American judges are every bit up to the standard of those in Britain or Uganda:

Judicial Tyranny Trashes Christian-Friendly Marriage Laws in Poland

Maybe you’re picking up a theme here — that rule by judicial elites is dangerous, because it’s unhinged both from the Natural Law and the wishes of ordinary citizens. But it isn’t just state courts or national courts that pose a threat. Judges at international courts are willing to override laws and constitutions of entire countries, as CNN reports:

The EU’s highest court ruled on Tuesday that same-sex marriages must be respected throughout the bloc and rebuked Poland for refusing to recognize a marriage between two of its citizens that took place in Germany.

The court said Poland had been wrong in not recognizing the marriage of the couple when they moved back to Poland, on the grounds that Polish law does not allow marriage between people of the same sex.

“It infringes not only the freedom to move and reside, but also the fundamental right to respect for private and family life,” the court said. …

Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-European coalition government’s work on pushing through the bill on same-sex unions has been held back by resistance from his conservative coalition partner.

Poland’s nationalist President Karol Nawrocki has also said he would veto “any bill that would undermine the constitutionally protected status of marriage.”

Our Diversity Is Our Strength

But maybe Italians are less inclined to feel that way after this case became public. The Daily Mail reports on the kind of incident that’s becoming almost routine in diversity-enhanced Europe:

A man was held down and forced to watch as migrants who smashed into his car raped his 18-year-old fiancée in Italy, according to police in Rome.

The couple had parked in a quiet corner of Tor Tre Teste, a park in the eastern part of the capital, for privacy, minutes before they were surrounded by the group who attacked their vehicle.

Police said the attackers broke the window and first pulled the man, 24, from the car before forcing the woman out as she tried to cover herself with an item of clothing….

The man told cops he was restrained by two of the attackers as his fiancée was dragged a short distance away.

As she was sexually assaulted, he screamed for help, begged them to stop and even threatened revenge, but was unable to break free.

After the attack, all three perpetrators fled the scene. The couple, both Italian, then contacted the police and filed a report.

According to the authorities, the couple were terrified and confused. Cops also added that it was possible that there were up to five attackers involved.

Officers have since arrested three Moroccan men on charges of gang rape and robbery.

Why are there Moroccans in Italy, you may ask? There’s no dictatorship there, and no one is being persecuted, so refugee claims ought to fail. Are there jobs in unemployment-ridden Italy that only Moroccan gang rapists are qualified to do?

Trump’s Own Team Helped the Russiagate Scam

If you wonder why the Trump administration sometimes seems to be flailing and chasing its own tail, remember that Trump has long faced the problem of finding staffers who’d actually be loyal to him — especially given the ferocious persecution which good soldiers such as Sidney Powell, Rudolph Giuliani, Mike Flynn, and John Eastman faced from our outraged elites. Real Clear Investigations reports on the actions of disloyal Trump appointees in his first term in office who helped undermine in staggering fashion. The new site reveals that

key members of Trump’s cabinet and other appointees during his first term shrouded the previous administration’s machinations and either deliberately or inadvertently misled the public into thinking the fake Russiagate intelligence was real.

Former Special Counsel John Durham, former National Security Adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former CIA Director Gina Haspel dismissed or buried evidence that cast doubt on a foundational document of the Russigate hoax – the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) prepared in the waning days of the Obama administration.

Durham, who was appointed by Attorney General William Barr, stopped the declassification and release of key exculpatory evidence debunking the ICA on the eve of the 2020 election, which has not been reported previously….

While these Trump-appointed officials may not have initiated the weaponization of the CIA against Trump, they facilitated it by hiding evidence that exposed the claims that Russia tried to help Trump as a fraud. By obscuring Joe Biden’s own role in perpetrating the hoax, they may have helped Obama’s vice president win the close race for the presidency in 2020.

“The Russiagate betrayal continued in plain sight,” said former Trump national security adviser J.D. Gordon, with some in Trump’s own cabinet letting him twist in the wind instead of daylighting secreted material that would have cleared the clouds of suspicion hanging over his head before the 2020 election.

Mike Flynn Calls for Change at the Department of Justice

Many Trump supporters have complained since Day One that Attorney General Pam Bondi is out of her depth, and that prosecutions of Democrats who wielded lawfare against ordinary citizens are moving at a snail’s pace. One of those victims, General Mike Flynn, appeared on The Eric Metaxas Show to call on President Trump to replace Bondi with someone who actually considers gutting the Deep State the priority that it is — such as former prosecutor and American hero Sidney Powell.
