Since he was first elected in 2016, President Donald Trump has struggled to assert his legitimate constitutional authority, partly because of high-level Deep State interference. (Remember the Russia collusion hoax? Two fake impeachments? The COVID scam?) An equally intractable obstacle has been partisan obstruction, slow-walking, leaks and other subterfuge by thousands of federal workers still loyal to the Democrats who hired them.
Sweetheart laws and bureaucratic obstacles prevented Trump from removing most of these salaried wreckers, leaving Trump like a well-meaning jockey on top of an enraged rogue elephant. No more, if the Democrats insist on shutting down the government rather than allowing cuts to free health care for illegal aliens. A government shutdown apparently offers the president an opportunity to clean house on a massive scale, as left-wing Axios reports:
The White House is threatening to use a potential short-term spending lapse to make long-term changes to the federal workforce.
Why it matters: Thousands of government employees could permanently lose their jobs if Congress doesn’t reach an agreement to fund the government by Oct. 1.
- “It has never been more important for the Administration to be prepared for a shutdown if the Democrats choose to pursue one,” Russ Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, wrote to agencies and departments Wednesday evening.
- Vought is instructing agencies to send “Reduction in Force (RIF) notices for all employees” in programs that are “not consistent with the president’s priorities,” according to the memo.
Yes, but: Vought is also indicating that programs that received money in the “one big beautiful bill” will not be targeted.
Between the lines: Vought is setting up a two-track approach that would be triggered by a potential shutdown.
- Jobs would be spared in programs focused on border security, immigration enforcement, and national defense.
- Entire programs could be hollowed out if Vought determines they are not consistent with the president’s agenda.
So the Trump team is pressing Republicans in Congress to avoid making concessions to Democrats to avoid such a shutdown — which Republicans have treated like Kryptonite since the 1990s.

Former FBI Director Finally Faces Indictment
I don’t know if you remember 2017, when the mainstream media painted then-FBI Director James Comey as the public face of decency, patriotism, and nonpartisan professionalism. This was the official story, even after he’d obeyed Democrats and failed to charge Hillary Clinton for abusing classified documents while he was still running the Russia collusion hoax to try to remove Donald Trump from office. Now, just a few days before the statute of limitations runs out (thank you, do-nothings in the Department of Justice!), Comey will face the music.
He will be indicted, sources say, for lying to Congress about the Russia collusion investigation. Expect hissy fits and panicked harrumphing about the “weaponization of law enforcement” from the same people who cackled while grandmas who took selfies on January 6 were locked in solitary confinement.

The directive, which Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s office sent, was communicated to U.S. attorneys’ offices in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, and Maryland.
Charges on the table, The New York Times said through gritted teeth, could range from “arson to material support of terrorism.” Stuff’s getting real, people. Accountability for wealthy radical dilettantes is long overdue.

Oklahoma Embraces Turning Point USA
Not just people in deep-red Oklahoma, but the state itself is honoring Charlie Kirk’s heritage and mission, recognizing that patriotism and personal virtue are actually good things the government ought to encourage. (How un-American. George Washington must be turning in his grave.) Lifezette reports:
Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters announced Tuesday that every high school in the state will establish a Turning Point USA chapter, a move he said is designed to promote free speech, civic engagement, and honest discussions about America’s history and values.
Walters said the initiative comes in response to strong interest from parents, teachers, and students who want to see more opportunities for open dialogue in schools….
The superintendent said the program is intended to push back against the influence of what he called radical agendas in the classroom.
“For far too long, we have seen radical leftists with the teachers union dominate classrooms and push woke indoctrination on our kids,” Walters said.
I was a little shocked by this news, to be honest. For decades, conservatives have been gaslit into thinking that at best the government can be neutral, but it’s usually just evil — so our goal ought to be simply to hack it down to size. Meanwhile, Leftists grab the levers of power wherever they can and use them until they snap off in their hands. The Trump revolution within the GOP has broken that spell of learned helplessness, and not a moment too soon.
