The Brew: You Say You Want a Revolution? Well, You Know …

As Democrat mayors praise cop-killing terrorists and the Democrat governor of California paints an assassination target on a White House aide, the Left’s street militias are arming themselves and conducting riots against federal law enforcement. And the Trump administration is responding with something more than “thoughts and prayers” such as Democrats like to mock. It’s cracking down on sedition, which in the short run is likely to provoke even more violence — so get ready, fellow citizens. There’s a bumpy ride ahead.

Border Hawk reports:

Federal authorities say they arrested several armed suspects and located what appears to be an incendiary device during a major riot at an immigration detention facility near Chicago [Monday] night.

Hundreds of left-wing radicals gathered at the ICE Broadview Processing Center, which has been the scene of ongoing violent ‘protests’ in recent weeks.

On Sunday, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced 11 arrests the night prior, many of which were caught on camera.

“These are two guns that were taken off rioters in Chicago right against the fence at our ICE detention facility,” DHS explained in a statement.

“An investigation is underway into what appears to be some sort of explosive device found last night near the ICE Chicago detention facility.”

Some Assaults Are More Equal Than Others

I hate to keep banging this drum, but the beat keeps escalating: The Left is using its power wherever it can to legitimize violence against conservatives and Christians. It’s bad enough when it’s just messaging, such as the sick celebrations of Charlie Kirk’s murder.

It’s far worse when law enforcement simply lets Leftists slide for attacking conservatives and Christians. That is how pro-Nazi judges acted in the Weimar Republic, handing brownshirt thugs carte blanche for violence that yielded control over the streets, and landed Hitler in power. And it’s what just happened in New York City, as centrist legal scholar Jonathan Turley reports that

a dual legal system has taken hold in the city. That was never more evident than in the decision of Bragg to drop the case against Brianna J. Rivers, 30, who assaulted a pro-life advocate in a case of political violence. While blamed on negligence within his office, the dropping of the prosecution of Rivers is only the latest example of enabling those who turn to violence in our political system.

Rivers was captured on videotape attacking Craven Antao after she asked Rivers questions about abortion and repeated her answers. Antao was persistent and argumentative in the video below, but never threatened Rivers or in any way prompted an assault:

New York police arrested Rivers in April on one count of second-degree assault. Prosecutors had this videotape that showed no provocation or excuse for the violent attack. Antao had to go to emergency room for stitches and pay $3,000 in medical bills.

Nevertheless, Bragg’s office first downgraded the charge from second-degree assault to a misdemeanor and has now dropped the case entirely. He is going to let Rivers walk after an act of political violence captured on film….

If this were a pro-life advocate attacking a pro-choice person in New York, it is hard to imagine Bragg slow-walking the prosecution, downgrading the charges, and then dismissing the case after missing a deadline. There would have been an outcry from the public for deterrence and prosecution.

We have also seen the wholesale dropping of charges against rioters in major cities despite massive levels of property damage.

How can we share a country with people like this? The anti-Nazi Germans who found themselves saddled with Hitler learned quickly: You can’t. They must be comprehensively defeated and deterred, unless and until they extricate their souls from the death spiral of hatred.

Trump Administration Sues in Support of Second Amendment

If the police won’t protect us, at the very least we should have the means to defend ourselves, or so it’s specified in the quaint document known as the United States Constitution. But the Bill of Rights’s writ apparently doesn’t extend into Los Angeles, California, where the Sheriff’s Department routinely denies citizens the right to bear arms. It’s bad enough that the Trump administration has weighed in on gunowners’ behalf. The Department of Justice reports:

The Civil Rights Division today filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department due to their pattern or practice of infringing the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens seeking concealed carry weapons (CCW) permits. This lawsuit is the first affirmative lawsuit in support of gun owners filed by the U.S. Department of Justice. On March 27, 2025, the Division initiated the first-of-its-kind Second Amendment investigation due to numerous complaints of unreasonable delays in CCW permitting decisions by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. After analysis of data and documents spanning over 8,000 CCW permit applications, the Division today filed suit seeking relief on behalf of law-abiding applicants.

“The Second Amendment protects the fundamental constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to bear arms,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “Los Angeles County may not like that right, but the Constitution does not allow them to infringe upon it. This Department of Justice will continue to fight for the Second Amendment.”

“The Second Amendment is not a second-class right,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “This lawsuit seeks to stop Los Angeles County’s egregious pattern and practice of delaying law-abiding citizens from exercising their right to bear arms.”

Elections have consequences. You think things are chaotic now? Imagine if the Evangelicals for Harris had gotten their way. U.K. apologist Jamie Bambrick made that point on social media:

So while we keep our powder dry (quite literally) we should also count our blessings — and root out the Judases from our midst, who pretend that the Gospel is incompatible with having a functioning, sovereign country. If Christianity were such a suicide cult, we would know that it wasn’t true.

As Shutdown Approaches, Trump Finds Silver Lining: Sacred Cows Ripe for the Slaughter

Gateway Pundit reported yesterday:

[T]he government is expected to shut down tonight because the Democrats refuse to vote for a stopgap bill unless they can secure $1.5 trillion in spending that will fund healthcare for illegal aliens and sex reassignment surgery for children.

It quoted Trump’s comment to a reporter, doubtless made with a shrug and a gleam in his eye:

They are shutting it down. We’re not shutting it down. We don’t want it to shut down because we have the greatest period of time ever. I told you, we have $17 trillion being invested. So the last person that wants it shut down is us. Now, with that being said, we can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out, cutting things that they like, cutting programs that they like….

[T]hey’re taking a risk by having a shutdown. Because of the shutdown, we can do things medically and other ways, including benefits— we can get large numbers of people. We don’t want to do that, but we don’t want fraud, waste and abuse. And, you know, we’re cutting that.

But they want to have illegal aliens come into our country and get massive health care at the cost to everybody else. And we won’t have it. And that’s, I would say, the number one reason that they want to strike is to get illegal immigrants health care. And you know, Gavin Newsom wants that too in California, and it’s destroying California. We can’t have that. We’re not gonna have that.

Pope Francis Repeats Pope Francis’s Heresies, Defends Award to Pro-Abort Democrat

Like abused children who hope that their mom’s new boyfriend won’t beat them as often, Catholics in the wake of Pope Francis’ disastrous reign got their hopes up concerning Pope Leo XIV — who at least seems like less of sociopath, and perhaps even a theist. But on key issues he’s channeling the dismal, un-Christian opinions of his predecessor. The pope just affirmed the hackneyed heresy of the Seamless Garment, invented by the Leftist Cardinal Joseph Bernardin as a g-string for Democrat politicians with Irish or Italian last names.

Regarding the scandal of Chicago’s Cardinal Blaise Cupich conferring an award on pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQ Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Pope Francis said at a press conference, according to Catholic News Agency:

“Someone who says I’m against abortion but is in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life,” the pope explained. “Someone who says I’m against abortion but I’m in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don’t know if that’s pro life.

So every pope before Francis who taught that in the proper circumstances the death penalty is just … wasn’t “really pro-life.” Neither was the Council of Trent, which called the State “the legitimate avenger of crime”; or the Covenant of Noah — the first moral code which God imposed on the human race, which demanded capital punishment for murder.

Got it, Leo. Thanks a lot. As a Catholic, let me say that the “religious submission” I’m supposed to give even your private opinions just went down the garbage disposal. For my moral compass I’m just going to look to Gordon Ramsay instead.

The Stream’s Jules Gomes warned us about Leo’s views, but that doesn’t make this latest papal failure any less sickening.

Along The Stream

Speaking of Jules, don’t miss his powerful piece on the religious significance of the Charlie Kirk memorial.

Or my column about why some Catholics have tried to claim Kirk as a semi-convert, or something. (It’s called “grasping at straws.”)
