Iran has nothing left but defiance. The regime is falling apart before our eyes. Were reason involved they’d be raising white flags, but there is no reason here – only hatred – pure unadulterated hatred. But then such seem to be a common denominator these days – even domestically.
SecDef Hegseth’s Biblical citations and Christian expression are under attack:
Matthew D. Taylor, a visiting scholar at Georgetown who studies religious extremism and has been a frequent Hegseth critic, said, “The U.S. voluntarily going to war against a Muslim country with the military under the leadership of Pete Hegseth is exactly the kind of scenario that people like me were warning about before the election and throughout his appointment process.”
Taylor said Hegseth’s rhetoric and leadership “can only inflame and reinforce the fears and deep animosity that the regime in Iran has towards the U.S.”
I’m sorry, but that’s just crazy levels of anti-Christian paranoia. Pete Hegseth is younger than the Islamic Republic – a nation that announced its hatred of America and Christianity in its founding – before Hegseth’s birth. You know, the whole take the American embassy staff hostage thing. Hegseth could not possibly raise the animosity levels any higher than they already were. The ignorance in that statement is cosmic in scale. Such objections have absolutely nothing to do with this war or its conduct and everything to do with hating Christian faith. A fact which gives “the critics” more in common with the Iranian regime than most Americans.
Ah, but for real Christian hatred, let’s turn to California. My wife and I were headed out of that state long before covid, but covid accelerated and cemented our plans. They banned church – banned it – during covid. They did not suggest it was a bad idea, they did not produce guidelines advising against going to church – they banned it. Churches that met were subject to police action. Church temporarily became illegal – in this country with the First Amendment standing there in boldfaced letters – church became illegal.
But they weren’t done. During that period, wife of Emperor, er, Governor Gavin Newsom had some interesting things to say:
Siebel Newsom then took aim at folks on what she called the “far right,” including Christians and conservatives. “They’re living in this Evangelical, conservative silo that, ultimately, is just pulling us back as a country to a time and a place where we don’t deserve to be and we’re not gonna be,” said Siebel Newsom.
You know, Jesus was crucified for no-good-reason and I am beginning to wonder if the Left does not want that bit of history to repeat itself. What are we holding you back from Mrs. Newsom? How is your privileged, filthy-stinking-rich, completely-out-of-touch-with-normalcy life made worse by that church a few blocks away? You want to talk about “silos?” Let’s talk about that maskless dinner at the French Laundry while the rest of us could not go to church because your husband banned it. Who precisely is in a silo and who is confined against their will?
If you are Christian in this country, more than the Islamic Republic hates you. But remember what the Apostle Paul said, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” I realize we can do nothing right in the eyes of those that so deeply despise us, but the gist still applies.
Elsewhere in California…
The race is on with Minnesota to see which state can be defrauded more. But when it comes to sheer waste and virtue signaling, California cannot be beat. (Now, here’s the really funny part – there is nothing virtuous about “returning” land to indigenous peoples. The state can’t afford to maintain the land, they have to unload it.)
California continues to flirt with a wealth tax and the wealthy are leaving. I mean, after all, the whole wealth tax thing worked so well in Massachusetts. That’s so California, double down on a bad idea.
The goose that laid the golden egg in the formerly Golden State – movie and TV production – is leaving. Oh sure, the so-called “talent” and executives are still there, along with the financial headquarters, but the production and behind-the-scenes capability is long gone. The movies are made somewhere else – they just count the money in California.
But would it not be sweet irony if they outsmarted themselves. I have little hope, even if they elect a Republican governor – the legislature will just prove that much more of a recalcitrant mule. But I will laugh myself silly if the election process they put in place to secure their election backfires.
Finally…
I, for one, would not complain if supersonic commercial flight returned to the skies, especially if limitations to only over oceans were lifted. Progress is amazing and we are really smart. (Although, I grew up near an Air Force base before the days when sonic booms were outlawed – it wasn’t that bad.)
