Trump Targets Macron With Personal Jabs As NATO Split Deepens Over Iran War

President Donald Trump turned up the heat on America’s allies Wednesday, mixing sharp geopolitical criticism with personal jabs at French President Emmanuel Macron.

Speaking during a private White House lunch, Trump mocked Macron’s marriage while recounting efforts to secure NATO support in the ongoing Iran conflict.

“I call up France, Macron – whose wife treats him extremely badly,” Trump said, referencing widely circulated footage involving France’s first lady Brigitte Macron.

“Still recovering from the right to the jaw,” he added, before pivoting to his request for military assistance.

Trump described asking Macron to deploy naval support in the Gulf as U.S. forces work to counter threats and reopen key shipping lanes.

“We’d love to have some help,” Trump said he told the French leader. “If you could, could you please send ships immediately.”

He then mocked Macron’s response, imitating a French accent: “‘No no no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won.’”

The comments mark one of Trump’s most aggressive public escalations against NATO during the current conflict, as he presses allies to contribute more forcefully to operations tied to securing the Strait of Hormuz.

Responding to Trump’s remarks, the French president said they were “neither elegant nor up to standard,” signaling growing frustration in Paris as tensions between the two leaders spill into public view.
