NEW YORK, NY — Mayor Zohram Mandani called a press conference on Monday to clarify that his wife only celebrates the actions and mission of terrorists in her capacity as a private citizen.
The comments came after it was revealed that Mandani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, liked social media posts referring to the actions of Hamas on October 7th as a “hoax” and other posts that called the violence “political resistance.” Mamdani said his wife only liked these posts and celebrates terrorism as “a private citizen” and not in any official capacity.
“My wife is allowed to champion terror and violence because, even though she lives in the governor’s mansion and is my wife and I’m the most recognizable face in politics right now, she’s not a public figure and she can like and say whatever she wants without consequences,” Mamdani asserted.
Diwaji, whose family is originally from Syria and shares her husband’s views toward Israel and Zionism, has seen her social media activity come under scrutiny lately after critics discovered her appreciation for the terrorist acts of October 7th, 2022.
“My wife is an amazing woman with amazing morals, and I support her one-hundred percent,” Mamdai said. “As a private citizen, she can support terrorists and sympathize with rapists all she wants. It makes me love her even more, to be honest.”
At publishing time, Mamdani had also clarified that he is allowed to love terrorism on his days off.
