Trump Admin Announces Planned Parenthood Grants Will End This Year

The Trump administration has announced that this is the last year the Planned Parenthood abortion business will received Title X grants.

A Trump official confirmed today that it is legally required to issue the fifth and final year of Biden-era Title X family planning grants to America’s biggest abortion business Planned Parenthood, but has pledged to realign the program with a pro-life agenda afterward.

That decision next year will be ending taxpayer support for the abortion giant through this particiular funding stream.

White House spokesman Kush Desai said the administration was forced to extend the grants due to legal challenges.

“The administration has issued the fifth and final year of Title X grants that were locked in place during the Biden presidency,” Desai said. “The administration faced significant legal challenges in stopping any of these dollars from going out.”

Desai stressed that Title X money cannot legally go toward abortions even though it props up Planned Parenthood’s abortion business by freeing up other funds for abortions.

“Title X funds cannot be used for abortions by law and, consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order on Enforcing the Hyde Amendment, the Administration remains committed to realigning the Title X program with the President’s pro-life and pro-family agenda going forward,” he said.

Despite the news that the funding cutoff will happen next year, one pro-life leader is unhappy about the funding this year.

SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews she is upset that the administration has decided not to cancel Biden’s Title X grant awards to Planned Parenthood.

“Funding Planned Parenthood means propping up a business whose main purpose is to end the lives of innocent unborn children,” she complained. “This is an inexplicable slap in the face to the pro-life GOP base. Three out of four GOP base voters support defunding Planned Parenthood. One third of those voters say they’d be less enthusiastic about voting this November if the GOP abandons pro-life policies.”

She continued:

“This is a clear abandonment as the first Trump administration enacted the Protect Life Rule to stop Title X funding of Planned Parenthood. It should have been ‘Day One’ policy in the second administration. Instead, we are 14 months in and this hasn’t been prevented.

“This comes on the heels of the administration undermining GOP states by allowing the shipping of abortion drugs into their borders, violating their laws. And it comes after the president suggesting the GOP should be ‘flexible’ on the Hyde Amendment. This spells disaster for November. SBA’s field team is in the top battlegrounds, working every day to communicate with voters unlikely to vote if they aren’t motivated. This undermines their work, and amounts to political suicide. Enough is enough.”

Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, criticized the administration’s reasoning on X.

“If we are going to claim we must follow ‘the rules’ to fund abortion vendors, then we should also enforce the law that prohibits mailing Chemical Abortion Pills,” Hawkins wrote. “The Comstock Act is already federal law, and it makes it ILLEGAL to traffic dangerous abortion drugs by mail. … The Trump Administration doesn’t get to ignore federal law when it comes to the predatory abortion industry and then reward the same industry with more taxpayer dollars!”

Facing lawsuits from abortion advocates, the Department of Health and Human Services restored the funding in January to settle the legal challenges.

The Title X program provides grants for family planning services such as contraception, cancer screenings and testing for sexually transmitted infections. Pro-life advocates have long opposed any federal dollars flowing — even indirectly — to organizations that perform abortions with non-government funds.

The Department of Health and Human Services is expected to soon announce a new Title X funding opportunity for the next grant cycle that prioritizes protecting life and supporting families.
