Bill Maher Calls Eric Swalwell ‘Creep,’ Fuels Debate Over Political ‘Open Secrets’

Bill Maher unloaded on former Rep. Eric Swalwell, calling him a “f–king creep” as the fallout from a wave of sexual misconduct allegations continues to ripple through political and media circles.

The blunt remarks came during Maher’s show, where he used Swalwell’s rapid downfall to raise a broader question: how long do rumors linger behind the scenes before they explode into public view?

Swalwell, once a high-profile Democrat and frequent cable news presence during the Trump years, saw his career unravel in a matter of days earlier this month.

He has since suspended his gubernatorial campaign, resigned from Congress, and acknowledged “mistakes” — while denying the most serious allegations, including claims of rape and sexual assault.

Maher claimed the warning signs weren’t new.

“Ask my staff. I never liked him… I got creepdar,” Maher said, arguing that his discomfort with Swalwell mirrored what he suggested were long-circulating perceptions that never made it into mainstream reporting.

The comedian then widened the lens.

He pointed to past scandals involving Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, and Harvey Weinstein — all cases where allegations, he argued, were widely whispered before becoming public reckonings.

“I hear this so many times… it was an open secret,” Maher said, questioning why such claims often take years to surface.
