Smith Shreds NABJ for ‘Thumbs Down’ Award [WATCH]

Legendary broadcaster, podcaster, and ESPN host Stephen A. Smith stopped by Hannity Monday night to unload on the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) for presenting him with their “Thumbs Down” award for 2026.

Stephen A. said the award was “utterly ridiculous.”

“It was just a few board members who decided to make this decision. And, as far as I’m concerned, they are going to regret it,” SAS said. “I’m not going away. If anything, they’ve made me more intense. They’ve made me more adamant about my positions — and the manner in which I go about doing what I do. I don’t back up. Nobody is going to intimidate me from being who I am — and that is a fair-minded individual who calls balls and strikes … I’m not backing up one inch.”

Smith also called it a “personal hit job” in a lengthy rant during his show on Monday.

The NABJ gave Smith a “Thumbs Down” award at the group’s Saturday night gala in Atlanta over what it characterized as his repeated disparagement of prominent Black women.

SAS corrects the record.
