Former ABC News correspondent Terry Moran says he tried to report on Joe Biden’s health months before the president’s disastrous 2024 debate — and ABC shut him down.
“In late 2023, early 2024,” Moran said, he believed it was becoming clear Biden was “fading rather quickly.”
He told The Daily Beast Podcast that he had watched Biden up close during a May 2023 trip to Japan and came away struck by how frail the president appeared.

“I tried to do the story of Biden’s health before anybody else did in network, because I’d seen it,” Moran said.
“And I got shut down very hard.”
Moran said he put the pitch in writing and deliberately avoided diagnosing Biden.
His argument was simple: the president’s condition was a legitimate issue for voters.
But according to Moran, ABC executives told him Biden’s health was the medical unit’s business — “not yours.”
“And that was that,” Moran said.
Moran had already raised Biden’s age on the air months earlier. During an April 2023 This Week roundtable, he said his “own sense” was that most Americans did not want to vote for an 81-year-old president and noted public unease over Biden’s age. ABC’s own transcript confirms the exchange.
