Almost 4 Years After Dobbs, We’re Still Fighting to Save Babies From Abortions

It’s almost unbelievable that we are coming up on the 4th anniversary of the reversal of Roe v Wade. Where has the time gone?

Prior to the release of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Politico announced on May 2, 2022, that a draft of the U.S Supreme Court decision had been leaked. The world went nuts.

Pro-lifers wanted to celebrate, but we weren’t sure if it was the actual, final version. Those unhappy with the decision began to attack pregnancy centers and churches and even threatened the lives of Supreme Court justices.

While the landscape changed after Dobbs, the focus of the pro-life movement remained laser sharp. Some states were, almost immediately, able to enact laws that protected all or most preborn children. Many of them also began, or enhanced, programs to help women dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. Other states swooped in with legislation and/or ballot measures that declared open season on the littlest Americans.

But through it all, good times and bad, National Right to Life and its affiliates continued its more-than-50-year goal of protecting unborn children and helping their mothers navigate the many pressures of an unplanned pregnancy.

To that end, since 1968, National Right to Life and its affiliates and chapters have been working to pass pro-life laws at the federal and state level. We strive to elect men and women who will champion the pro-life cause, And our vast network will continue to elect pro-life candidates to Congress and state legislatures. And all the time, we strive tirelessly to educate our communities about the sanctity of human life.

The landscape changes from year to year. Strategies and tactics necessarily change. We adapt, we try new things, but we also stick with what has proven to work.

Above all—we don’t give up.

As we are told in Ecclesiastes 4:12, “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” NRLC has been very effective with our three-strand cord:

*Organizing and leading efforts at the national, state, and local levels;

*Strategizing to ensure positive outcomes through legislation, political action, and education; and

*Focusing our pro-life efforts on abortion, infanticide, and euthanasia.

Looking ahead, we will continue to fight taxpayer funding for abortion providers.

With 2/3rds of all abortions now chemically-induced, we have taken the lead in promoting innovative legislation such as the Abortion Pill Provider Liability and Education (APPLE) Act.

We will support legislative and community efforts that help women find the resources they need to choose life.

We will fight efforts to legalize assisted suicide and encourage better methods of pain control and enhanced counseling for depression and loneliness. No one should think their life is meaningless.

Yes, we face huge hurdles. Seeing abortion pills sent through the mail is extremely heartbreaking. We know that women are suffering in their own bedroom or bathroom as the pills work to expel the new life growing within them.

We are horrified that teenage girls can get the pills without their parents even knowing. Men who do not want to be fathers can slip these pills into hot chocolate or tea, so the unsuspecting mother loses her child. The task before us isn’t easy, but pro-lifers are determined.

However, here’s a “heads up” to the abortion industry—we will never, ever give up! We will fight until every child is protected in life and every mother has the support she wants and every unborn child is welcomed in life.

Further, even if abortion is legal in some states, we will continue our efforts to make abortion unthinkable. We will see the day when, legal abortion or not, no woman will want one. This is the civil rights battle of the century, and we won’t give up.

Even if euthanasia/ assisted suicide is legal in some states, we will work for that day when no one chooses premature death.

What I’ve mentioned here are just examples of what we do, day in and day out. If you’re reading this and wondering what more you can do to help, I strongly encourage you to attend the National Right to Life Conference next month in Arlington, VA. For information and registration details, go to nrlcconvention.com. I look forward to seeing you there.

At the conference, rest assured you will learn much and meet amazing people from around the country. You will find a renewed energy in your step as you return home, even more and better-equipped to fight for life.

To all mothers, I say THANK YOU and Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you for choosing Life. Thank you for bringing new life into the world. Thank you for the sacrifices you made to raise children in an often-difficult world.
