According to The California Post, a California election worker is under investigation after allegedly accessing a locked ballot cabinet and making copies of election records in Shasta County, fueling fresh scrutiny over election procedures in the deep-red northern California county.
County officials confirmed Tuesday that the investigation centers on discrepancies discovered during a routine reconciliation of early voting records following the June election.
According to a statement released by the county, election workers uncovered irregularities suggesting “a small number of additional ballots may have been handed out to voters prior to election day by one employee.”

Officials said the matter was immediately reported to California’s Secretary of State, which oversees election-related investigations.
The incident traces back to June 4 inside the Shasta County Elections Department in Redding, where workers were conducting a standard reconciliation of early vote totals and election records.
County officials said some reports generated through California’s Election Information Management System, known as EIMS, “may not have been properly balanced before being run from EIMS” because reconciliation work had not yet been completed.
After election workers paused their review, officials said the related documents and election materials were secured inside a locked cabinet within the Elections Department.
But while those employees were away, another employee allegedly removed the documents, made copies and later provided them to Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis before the records were secured again in another office.
Authorities stressed that no original ballots or official election materials ever left the Elections Department building.
“At no time did original ballots, or election materials leave the Elections Department at 1643 Market Street,” the county said in its statement.
Still, county officials acknowledged that copied records retained or removed by Curtis may have contained sensitive voter information, including names, addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, signatures and explanations submitted by voters requesting replacement ballots.
Officials said additional details were provided to the Secretary of State’s office but withheld from the public summary to protect those involved in the investigation.
