Campaign Will Show Banners on Freeways Saying “Abortion Takes a Human Life”

Next Friday, July 24, small teams of pro-life volunteers across the country will hold large banners on bridges over busy highways, reaching commuters with the message that “Abortion takes a human life.”

The groups, organized by the Aurora, Illinois based Pro-Life Action League, will hold their banners during the morning and evening rush hours as part of National Pro-Life Bridges Day, taking place in more than 50 cities throughout the United States.

This year’s Bridges Day comes as the federal government has restored Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, resuming the flow of taxpayer dollars to the nation’s largest abortion provider. Pro-Life Action League Chief Operations Officer Matt Yonke, who is organizing the nationwide effort, condemned the decision, but insisted that funding fights are not why the event exists.

“It’s unfortunate—though, honestly, unsurprising—that federal taxpayer dollars are once again flowing to Planned Parenthood,” Yonke said. “We decry that decision, and we’ll keep working alongside our coalition partners to change it. But funding is not the heart of this issue. The heart of this issue is that thousands of children in the womb lose their lives to abortion every single day in our country. That’s why we’re on the bridges, to put the spotlight back on the human lives in the balance, where it belongs.”

Yonke noted that the League has been holding National Pro-Life Bridges Day every summer since 2018, and that the message on the banners hasn’t changed.

“Since 2018, we’ve come back to these overpasses with the same simple truth: abortion takes a human life,” Yonke said. “Laws change, court rulings change, funding decisions change. That truth doesn’t. It’s the message millions of American commuters will see next Friday, and we’ll keep bringing it back until the whole country reckons with it.”

Cities taking part in National Pro-Life Bridges Day include Chicago, Illinois; Los Angeles, California; San Antonio, Texas; St. Louis, Missouri; Washington, DC; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Organizers expect to reach more than 2 million highway commuters with their pro-life outreach.
