Gov. Jared Polis signed legislation this week forcing Colorado’s public colleges and universities to stock and sell abortion pills at student health centers – pills that have killed women and will kill unborn babies.
This is a mandate that pro-life advocates say compels institutions to actively facilitate chemical abortions on campus.
The Democrat governor approved House Bill 1335. The bill, which passed the House 41-22 in late April largely along party lines, takes effect Aug. 1, 2027.
Under the new law, public institutions operating student health centers must provide students access to the two-pill abortion drug. Campuses with on-site pharmacies are required to stock the drugs for students. Those without must have medical staff at the health center dispense the pills directly or write prescriptions for off-campus pharmacies.
Religious institutions are exempt if the requirement conflicts with their principles or jeopardizes federal funding.

Rep. Lorena Garcia, D-Adams County, sponsored the measure to expand access to the dangerous abortion pill for college students.
Republicans opposed the legislation, warning it fails to give students complete information about their options. “Adoption is also a choice. If we’re going to provide information, we should provide it all,” Rep. Rebecca Keltie, R-Colorado Springs, said during debate.
“We should make it fair and equitable and then let that person decide for themselves.”
Even one Democrat broke ranks.
Rep. Bob Marshall of Highlands Ranch voted against the bill, saying he had pledged not to support further expansions of abortion and questioning why the mandate was needed when the pills are already available other ways.
