A Marine who lost both legs serving in Afghanistan didn’t think twice when he saw the American flag lying in the road.
Tony Mullis pulled over on a busy Georgia highway, stepped out on his prosthetic legs and walked into the roadway to retrieve Old Glory.
Video captured the double-amputee veteran carrying the flag to safety.

Mullis lost his legs in an explosion during his second combat tour in Afghanistan.
Years later, the flag still meant enough to stop for.
He later spoke with Inside Edition’s Alison Hall about the moment.
“To me, I didn’t see a flag lying there or a piece of fabric — I saw one of my buddies lying there,” Mullis said. “And I wouldn’t leave them there, so I couldn’t leave the flag there.”
