FBI Seizes Eric Swalwell Devices in Sexual Misconduct Probe

Federal agents seized electronic devices from former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport and searched his Washington, DC, home the following day as a federal investigation tied to sexual-assault allegations against him intensifies, according to multiple reports.

The seizures mark the most significant known federal law-enforcement action against Swalwell since allegations of sexual misconduct derailed his political career in April.

CNN reported that agents approached Swalwell at the airport Saturday and seized electronic devices before FBI agents searched his Washington residence Sunday.

The FBI declined to comment, and Swalwell did not immediately respond to CNN after the search. He has repeatedly denied allegations of sexual assault and other misconduct.

Four women told CNN the FBI has contacted them as part of the federal investigation.

Federal agents seized Eric Swalwell’s electronic devices at San Francisco International Airport and searched his Washington home the following day.

Multiple outlets report the FBI investigation is connected to sexual-assault and misconduct allegations that Swalwell denies.

Authorities in New York and Los Angeles have separately opened investigations into allegations made by two women.

Swalwell has not been charged over the sexual-assault allegations and continues to deny wrongdoing.

The searches come roughly four months after Swalwell resigned from Congress and abandoned his campaign for California governor following reports from CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle detailing accusations from several women.

Among the most serious was an allegation from a former staffer who said Swalwell raped her in 2024 after she had stopped working for him.

“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman told CNN. “He didn’t stop.”

The former staffer said she was heavily intoxicated during the alleged encounter and later found herself bruised and bleeding.

Swalwell has denied the accusation.

Another woman, Lonna Drewes, publicly accused Swalwell in April of drugging and raping her during a 2018 encounter in West Hollywood. Swalwell has denied that allegation as well.

Those claims have triggered investigations on both coasts.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation into allegations involving the former staffer’s account of a 2024 encounter in New York, while the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department opened a separate investigation after Drewes came forward.

Federal authorities are now conducting their own investigation connected to allegations of sexual assault, according to CNN and other outlets.

No criminal charges against Swalwell stemming from the sexual-assault allegations have been announced.

Swalwell has maintained that the accusations are false and has said he intends to fight them.
