A woman who accused Maine Democratic Senate hopeful Graham Platner of physical abuse is now turning her fury on The New York Times, accusing the paper of “methodically” twisting her account into what she called “a gift to the Platner campaign.”
Lyndsey Fifield unloaded on the Gray Lady in a pair of lengthy X posts Friday morning, one day after the Times published a story detailing accusations from multiple women against the Democrat candidate.
Fifield said she initially trusted Times reporters Lisa Lerer and Katie Glueck despite reservations from friends.

“I bucked all advice from my friends (and resisted my conservative bias) and decided to fully trust the Times journalists,” she wrote.
According to Fifield, the reporters repeatedly returned asking for more evidence, more screenshots and additional corroboration before the story was published.
But when the article finally appeared Thursday, she said key allegations — including accusations of sexual assault from other women — were missing entirely.
“After the story went up I began to ask them … wait, where are the stories from the other women? Where are their accusations of sexual assault? Why am I the focus?” Fifield wrote.
She also questioned why the story devoted extensive attention to her work history while allegedly downplaying or omitting corroborating evidence she said she provided.
“Why does it say ‘nobody could corroborate’ when I offered them sources that COULD corroborate?” she asked.
The original Times report included allegations from Fifield that Platner regularly grabbed her hard enough to leave marks, once yanked her out of a cab by the wrist during an argument and, during another incident, twisted her arm behind her back before forcing her into a bedroom and holding the door shut until she was “calm.”
The article also quoted another ex-girlfriend, Jenny Racicot, saying Platner “does not respect women,” while a third anonymous woman described herself as “collateral damage to the world that is his.”
Fifield said the Times also failed to mention that she had confided in friends for years about the alleged abuse — well before Platner entered politics — and claimed those friends confirmed that information to reporters.
“The journalists I trusted who convinced me to share a story I never wanted to tell methodically delayed and twisted this into a gift to the Platner campaign,” she wrote. “Violating the trust of his victims.”
I bucked all advice from my friends (and resisted my conservative bias) and decided to fully trust the Times journalists.
As they left my home they asked that I not talk to any other outlets and I insisted then and repeatedly over the following weeks that I would keep my word…

Platner denied the allegations during an appearance on MS NOW Thursday night, calling Fifield’s claims “politically motivated” and “just not true.”
The controversy now threatens to deepen scrutiny not only on Platner’s campaign, but also on how legacy media outlets handle explosive allegations involving high-profile political candidates.
