Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Rpeublican, filed an amendment to the Senate budget resolution to extend the prohibition on federal payments to abortion companies, including Planned Parenthood.
The amendment would extend the one-year ban on Medicaid payments to such abortion businesses enacted in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed by President Donald Trump on July 4, 2025. The ban is set to expire on July 4, 2026.
Hawley plans to force a vote on the measure during the Senate’s consideration of the budget resolution
.“Under NO circumstance can Planned Parenthood receive taxpayer dollars to fund abortions and transgender insanity,” Hawley said in a post on X. “I’m offering this amendment to BAN federal funding from Planned Parenthood.”
Hawley has consistently called for an end to all federal funding to abortion sellers.
At the start of this Congress, he introduced the End Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Providers Act, which would strip Planned Parenthood and similar entities from receiving any taxpayer dollars.
Pro-life advocates welcomed the filing. Students for Life Action announced it will score any vote related to the amendment.
“Sen. Josh Hawley fights the good fight with his amendment filed today to keep healthcare dollars out of the hands of the abortion lobby,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “If your healthcare kills people and sterilizes minors on purpose, you’re doing it wrong.”
Hawkins called the amendment “the right move for assuring pro-life voters that they have been heard.”
The amendment comes as the new report from the nation’s biggest abortion business shows it killed a record 434,450 babies in abortions in its 2024-2025 fiscal year.
That marks an 8% increase from the 402,230 abortions it reported the previous year.

Planned Parenthood also received a record $832 million in taxpayer funding during the period, a 5% increase from the prior year, according to its newly released annual report titled “Care Continues. The numbers cover the fiscal year so they do not reflect the federal defunding from the bill President Donald Trump signed.
Pro-life leaders strongly condemned the report, which was quietly released over the Easter weekend.
“Planned Parenthood’s reign of death and destruction increased in 2025,” said Hugh Brown, American Life League’s vice president. “And despite its cries that our tax dollars were taken from it, the organization actually received a record amount of government funding last year. How? Because the government is a liar, and abortion is the unholy grail that Planned Parenthood and the US government worship.”
The report shows Planned Parenthood now ends more than 1,190 babies’ lives every day.
Katherine Van Dyke, an American Life League researcher, highlighted Planned Parenthood’s expanding use of telehealth services, which increased 126% from 2024 to 2025, reaching 320,390 telehealth appointments plus another 62,000 through virtual centers. These undoubtedly push dangerous abortion pills that kill babies and injure women.
“American Life League has been drawing attention to Planned Parenthood’s efforts to commit abortions over the internet for nearly two decades now,” Van Dyke said. “Unfortunately, we expect these numbers to increase as more facilities close and more money can be utilized to provide abortion pills and contraceptive drugs through the mailing system. This is all part of Planned Parenthood’s deadly strategy.”
Judie Brown, American Life League president, criticized both the content and the timing of the release.
“Hidden beneath the glass and the numbers is the actual truth that Planned Parenthood detests families as God designs them,” Brown said. “It works tirelessly to market evil and promote it under the guise of ‘healthcare.’ In short, we cannot believe a word it writes. Shame on Planned Parenthood!”
Over the past 25 years, Planned Parenthood has killed nearly 8 million babies in abortions while receiving more than $12.3 billion in taxpayer funds. During that same period, the organization provided only 331,000 prenatal care services.
American Life League, parent organization of Stop Planned Parenthood (STOPP), continues to call for the defunding of the abortion giant and the closure of all its facilities.
This latest report underscores the ongoing devastation caused by the abortion industry and the urgent need to redirect resources toward true support for mothers and their unborn children.
