Karoline Leavitt Leaving White House Press Secretary Post

Karoline Leavitt is leaving the White House briefing room, but she is not leaving Trump World.

President Trump announced that his 28-year-old press secretary will step down at the end of August to spend more time with her family, closing a history-making tenure that made the young mother one of the administration’s most recognizable defenders.

Leavitt, the youngest White House press secretary in American history, gave birth to her second child, Viviana, in May and returned from maternity leave last month.

Trump said Leavitt will remain in his political orbit as a senior outside adviser while Republicans battle to retain control of Congress.

“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president praised Leavitt as “one of my most trusted aides” and credited her with years of loyalty to his political movement.

“Karoline has been a real leader in the White House, and has done a phenomenal job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom, since 2018, including our Historic Re-Election Campaign of 2024,” he wrote.

“Karoline has been one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office.”

Leavitt called the job “the honor and adventure of a lifetime” and thanked Trump for entrusting her with the role.

Her departure completes a rapid rise from White House intern to the public face of the Trump administration.

Leavitt served in Trump’s first administration before mounting an unsuccessful campaign for a New Hampshire House seat during the 2022 midterms. She later joined Trump’s 2024 campaign and became one of his most visible television surrogates.

That campaign coincided with another dramatic moment in her personal life.

Leavitt gave birth to her first child, Niko, just three days before Trump was shot and nearly assassinated at his July 2024 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. She quickly returned to the campaign trail during the tumultuous aftermath.

After Trump’s victory, Leavitt took over one of Washington’s most punishing communications jobs. She became the first sitting White House press secretary to give birth while holding the position.
