Midterm Elections are Vitally Important for Saving Babies From Abortions

The beautiful venue of the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC was matched by the beautiful spirit of hundreds of prolife activists and supporters last night as Susan B. Anthony Prolife America (SBA), under the leadership of Marjorie Dannenfelser, held its annual Gala.

The midterm elections, and the larger-than-ever investment that SBA is making in knocking on doors in swing states and districts, was a key theme of the evening, as was the commitment of prolife senators.

Senator Steve Daines of Montana, who will be finishing his service in the Senate in January, was among the Senators present for the evening. In his remarks he referenced his past leadership of the prolife caucus of the Senate. While the US House has had a prolife caucus for a very long time, the one in the Senate came about more recently. It is currently led by Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, who was also present.

Likewise present and speaking were Senators Ted Cruz, Tim Scott, Lindsey Graham, Josh Hawley, Jim Banks, Ashley Moody, Bill Cassidy, James Lankford and others, along with many House members and the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson.

Some of the other themes that arose in the senators’ remarks were that there are many variables at work in the midterm elections that should give us confidence that we can buck the historical trend and actually gain seats in Congress. The war in Iran, and gas prices, are not likely to be in the same place in a few months as they are now.

Also, Speaker Johnson referenced what former Speaker Newt Gingrich told him, namely, that this midterm election is a study in contrasts for America, as the Democrats continue to double down on craziness, on the wrong side of 80-20 and 90-10 issues. The Speaker conveyed a sense of humor during his remarks, saying that in his dealings with these Democrats, he tries to exercise every ounce of Christian charity – but crazy is crazy.

SBA President Marjorie Dannenfelser rightly pointed out another important theme. The Dobbs decision reversing Roe did not take away a federal role regarding abortion. It is a mistake to think that protection for the unborn can be fully restored just by working on the state level. Just as with slavery, a federal effort is needed, to ultimately restore protection to these children in every single state, and to counteract the vigorous pro-abortion efforts that the Democrats make on the federal level. They are very much on that playing field; so must we be.

One next step in that federal battle, mentioned by many last night, is the question of funding, and lawmakers expressed confidence that using the “reconciliation” process, which only requires a simple majority, Congress will vote to continue to protect our tax dollars from funding the abortion industry through Medicaid.

The commitment of the people in that auditorium last night, myself included, was strengthened by the concluding scene of the evening – a stage filled with young prolife activists committed to knocking on doors to win these midterm elections for the unborn. They are trained and sent forth strategically through Susan B. Anthony ProLife America.

These efforts, along with those of similar groups in the prolife and conservative movement, should encourage us to work harder than ever, starting today, to elect public servants who know the difference between serving the public and killing the public. After all, if a politician can’t respect the life of a little baby, how can he/she respect ours?
