Mitch McConnell’s Staff Assures Public His Death Will Not Prevent Him From Finishing His Term

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As rumors continued to swirl throughout the nation’s capital regarding his status, Senator Mitch McConnell’s staff assured the public that his death would not prevent him from finishing his term.

News broke last week that the longtime Kentucky senator had been hospitalized after being found unresponsive in his Washington, D.C., home. Despite the uncertainty about his well-being, however, McConnell’s staff said he would be more than fit to serve the remainder of his term even if he were dead.

“No one would know the difference,” one McConnell staffer said. “Whether he’s alive or not, the next several months would be just the same. We can assure the American people that, even if Senator McConnell should be confirmed dead in the coming weeks, they can expect the same level of focus and attention he has exhibited for the last several years.”

Republicans remained confident that whether McConnell was alive or dead, they could count on the same insight they had received from him throughout his latest term in office. “He’s always steady and consistent,” one GOP senator said under the condition of anonymity. “Alive, dead, it’s all the same to us. Honestly, I thought he’d been dead since 2022. Have you seen him?”

When a request was made for McConnell to comment on the reports, his office responded with silence, which was consistent with other responses from the senator in recent years.

At publishing time, McConnell’s staff announced that he had changed his mind on retiring and would run for re-election, dead or alive.
