Pennsylvania Touts ‘Media Literacy’ for Kids While Pushing Left-Wing Sources

The state of Pennsylvania is pushing “media literacy toolkits” in K-12 schools that guide children toward news sources with a pronounced leftist bias.

NPR, the BBC, the Guardian, Reuters, Al-Jazeera, The Hill, Vox and AP are listed in the state Department of Education’s toolkit as “trusted,” even though they “relentlessly run cover for Democrats and left-wing causes and smear conservatives at all costs,” The Federalist reported. The kit lists only one “conservative lean” site, The Dispatch.

Government Schools Can’t Be Trusted

“This is yet more evidence that government schools cannot be trusted,” said Sheri Few, founder and president of United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE). “Under the guise of battling ‘disinformation,’ the state promotes outlets riddled with leftist propaganda masquerading as news reporting.”

In recent weeks, Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro and Acting Secretary of Education Carrie Rowe have been visiting schools and promoting the toolkit as a way to counter “disinformation.”

However, “Corporate media at large has downplayed and denied leftist violence, peddled debunked hoaxes, misrepresented conservatives, or blatantly lied to push left-wing narratives,” The Federalist said.

“The aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk brought the trend in full force, when outlets’ used their coverage of Kirk’s brutal killing to smear the conservative icon’s reputation, or cast his killer as ‘MAGA.’”

“There is a real problem with deepfakes and other garbage on the internet, but pretending that clearly biased sources are a reliable alternative is not the answer,” Few said. “This story points out the risk to parents who might naively think ‘trusted sources’ are to be trusted.”

Shapiro visited Middletown Area High School near Harrisburg recently to highlight the Information and Media Literacy Toolkit for students, teachers and parents that was unveiled in September 2024.

The toolkit steers viewers to state and external resources to learn about “misinformation” and “disinformation.”

Programming Young People to Only Trust the Left

In addition to left-leaning news sources, “the toolkit links to several pages within The Boston Children’s Media Wellness Lab,” The Federalist reported. “The lab is supported by arguably some of the most powerful enemies of children’s wellbeing online: TikTok, Roblox and Discord.”

Another link is to Civic Online Reasoning from the Digital Inquiry Group, which offers a “media literacy” curriculum. COR is funded by “the Spencer Foundation and the Hewlett Foundation (a funder of Planned Parenthood and ‘LGBTQ’ agendas,” The Federalist noted.

“Pennsylvania’s Information and Media Literacy Toolkit is indoctrinating youth with leftist propaganda,” Few said. “If that’s not bad enough, November 13 to 19 is national ‘Transgender Awareness Week,’ yet another excuse to corrupt children.

“The best option is to get your kids out of the government schools.”

Why Public Schools Are Past Saving

In USPIE’s new report, “Are Government Schools Redeemable?” government involvement is one of the five key roadblocks preventing government schools from being redeemable.

After a brief history, the section concludes: “The evidence is inarguable: The federal government’s intervention in education has been expensive and disastrous for children. The model of government-run schools has not served our country well and should be abandoned.”

To hear more from USPIE’s Founder and President, Sheri Few, tune in to the latest episode of USPIE’s podcast, “Unmasking Government Schools with Sheri Few,” on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with special guest Bruce Shortt, an attorney in Houston, Texas, and author of the seminal book, The Harsh Truth About Public Schools. Shortt and Few discuss how the general public has come around to understanding many of the issues he raised in his book, as well as some of their concerns regarding Artificial Intelligence in education.

USPIE’s “Unmasking Government Schools with Sheri Few” is a weekly podcast that exposes the dangers of education shaped by government bureaucrats and social engineers, while exploring practical ways to protect children and preserve America’s freedom. Restoring Parental Control

United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) is a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that is fighting to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences. It is the vision of USPIE to create a culture where parents, empowered with the authority to choose what and how their children learn, are the undisputed primary educators of their children, where local schools operate in support of families, and where education is unencumbered by federal mandates.

USPIE’s powerful documentary, “Truth & Lies in American Education,” addresses some of the most glaring issues in the American education system and helps parents experience a paradigm shift in how they think about education and the role of their local schools. The film follows Few’s daughter-in-law, April, as she seeks to learn more about the system she was planning on exposing to her own children and learns the shocking truth. “Truth & Lies in American Education” is available for streaming on SalemNOW, as well available on DVD.
