President Donald Trump on Wednesday nominated Dr. Nicole Saphier, a board-certified radiologist and dedicated pro-life advocate as his choice for Surgeon General.
Saphier has been praised for her decision to choose life for her unborn child despite intense pressure as a teenager to have an abortion.
The announcement positions Saphier — director of breast imaging at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New Jersey, a Fox News medical contributor and best-selling author — to lead the nation’s public health efforts.
The Catholic physician and mother of three would succeed Vivek Murthy if confirmed by the Senate.

Saphier, 44, has long defended the sanctity of life, drawing from her personal experience as a 17-year-old facing an unplanned pregnancy. Many around her urged abortion, warning that continuing the pregnancy would ruin her future and destroy her dreams of becoming a doctor.
“I became pregnant at the age of 17 and I was faced with a huge obstacle: Do I continue on with the pregnancy or do I not?” she has recounted. “A lot of people around me told me that if I continued with the pregnancy that I would never fulfill my dreams of being a doctor.”
She chose life.
In op-eds and interviews, Saphier has expressed profound gratitude for that decision, saying her son has brought “unparalleled joy” and become a fine young man.
“I am so glad I did,” she has said, emphasizing that motherhood strengthened rather than hindered her path.
Defying the doubts, Saphier earned a B.A. from Arizona State University and an M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her radiology residency and fellowship while raising her family and went on to build a distinguished career in oncologic imaging.
Her eldest son, born weeks before her high school graduation, stands as a living testament to the power of choosing life.
Saphier has framed her story not as politics but as a deeply personal witness to the value of every human life.
“My pregnancy may not have been wanted, but my beautiful son certainly is,” she wrote in one reflection.
She has encouraged other young women facing similar circumstances, telling them they are not alone and that choosing motherhood can lead to unexpected blessings.
Trump’s selection of Saphier sends a clear message that a strong pro-life voice will help shape national health policy. Supporters view her as a compassionate physician who understands both medical excellence and the importance of protecting the unborn, promoting personal responsibility, and strengthening families.
A frequent guest on Fox News programs such as “Fox & Friends” and “The Five,” Saphier has addressed health policy, chronic disease, and wellness. Her books, including “Make America Healthy Again,” call for empowering individuals to improve their health rather than relying solely on government solutions.
The nomination requires Senate confirmation.
