Pro-Life Groups Push Hard for Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood Again

Pro-life groups are pushing hard to once again bar federal Medicaid reimbursements from going to Planned Parenthood and other abortion companies.

Just days after such funding resumed for non-abortion services, leading pro-life groups hope Republicans will advance a new reconciliation bill to cut funding gain to Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion business in America that killed 434,450 babies in abortions last year.

Pro-life advocates are pressing Congress to revive the ban on Medicaid reimbursement for Planned Parenthood that Congress recently allowed to expire, which had cut off hundreds of millions in annual funding.

Several pro-life organizations — Americans United for Life, Live Action, Students for Life Action and the National Right to Life Committee — plan to hold a press conference on Capitol Hill on Thursday. They will demand that GOP leaders include the defunding measure in an upcoming party-line bill and will follow up by lobbying individual congressional offices.

Republican lawmakers supporting the effort include Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) and Reps. Mark Harris, Michelle Fischbach (R-Minn.) and Bob Onger (R-Mo.).

The renewed push comes after Planned Parenthood and two smaller regional abortion companies resumed billing Medicaid for services other than abortion on July 5.

The defunding had been mandated in President Donald Trump’s big tax and policy law last year and remained in effect for most of the past year until it expired on July 5.

Kelsey Pritchard, a spokesperson for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said last week: “They’ve defunded Big Abortion before, and they should do everything in their power to do it again.”

Pritchard said the Republican base supports defunding the abortion organization.
