Progressives Keep Using ActBlue Amid Congressional Probe

The questions surrounding ActBlue keep growing.

So does the campaign cash flowing through it.

According to a Fox News report, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed continue using the progressive fundraising platform despite an ongoing congressional investigation into whether its safeguards failed to block fraudulent and illegal foreign donations.

The controversy intensified after a viral video featured an 88-year-old Michigan woman disputing nearly $150,000 in political contributions attributed to her in federal campaign-finance records.

The woman acknowledged making donations through ActBlue but challenged the enormous total associated with her name.

Federal Election Commission records list more than 15,000 contributions from the woman over six years.

ActBlue has become the financial engine of progressive politics, processing more than $19 billion since its founding in 2004 for Democratic candidates, party committees and left-wing organizations.

The platform markets itself as a grassroots “counterweight to the dark money special interests that dominate our politics.”

Republican investigators argue that its sprawling operation may also be vulnerable to fraudulent transactions and foreign money prohibited under federal election law.

House committees have been investigating ActBlue’s fraud-prevention systems since 2023, examining whether the platform maintained adequate safeguards against suspicious or unlawful contributions.

An interim congressional staff report released in April 2025 cited internal ActBlue records showing that the platform detected 237 donations from foreign internet addresses made with domestic prepaid cards during one 30-day period in late 2024.

Investigators described that combination as a leading indicator of potential fraud.

ActBlue denies wrongdoing and rejects allegations that it allowed illegal foreign money to enter American campaigns.
