CAMBRIDGE, MA — Engineers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reportedly developed an innovative new children’s bike that uses pedals instead of electricity for power.
“Keeping your bike charged can be so frustrating. We knew there just had to be a better way,” said Lynn Weber, lead scientist on the team that produced the innovative design. “So we added pedals to this bike. You move them with your feet to propel yourself forward without any electricity at all.”
Scientists called it the “bicycle,” and it’s expected to change the way kids ride bikes forever. No longer do kids have to deal with batteries and charge times. They just get on the bike and go.
“Kids are basically their own tiny batteries, so they don’t need electric power,” Weber said. “Give that kid a pizza roll, and he’s good to go for another 10 miles at least.”
A team of engineers reportedly developed the pedal-powered bicycle over the course of 12 grueling weeks. The idea reportedly developed as a result of one scientist getting off his Segway and walking somewhere. “It just occurred to me that if I can walk somewhere, I could manually bike somewhere, too,” said William Wu, a computer engineer who petitioned the mechanical engineering team to take up his pet project.
Critics dismissed the manual propulsion bike as a foolish dream, calling it dead in the water. “You have to use your feet? It’s like a baby’s toy,” said Valance Polk, editor of Popular Science. “I don’t even know what pedal means.”
At publishing time, Razor had bought the patent for the new pedal-powered bicycle so it could bury it and continue to sell electric bikes to kids.
