Speaker Mike Johnson Wants to Defund Planned Parenthood Again

Once again, I was privileged and inspired to be part of the Road to Majority Conference, put together by the Faith and Freedom Coalition led by one of my great friends and allies, Dr. Ralph Reed, one of the most knowledgeable and influential figures in American politics.

Taking place in Washington, DC from June 25-27th, just a week before our nation’s 250th birthday, it was the largest such event ever, bringing together the best lineup of political speakers in the nation. President Donald J. Trump spoke at the event, and it was his tenth such appearance, whether as a private citizen, a candidate, or the 45th and 47th President of the United States.

President Trump addressed the travesty we saw under the Democrats of prayerful, peaceful prolife activists being thrown in jail unjustly. He reiterated the pride he took in pardoning and releasing them from President shortly after being inaugurated, as he had promised during the campaign.

The President also mentioned that after his talk, he was headed back to the White House to meet with the Religious Liberty Commission and receive their report of recommendations, gathered in monthly hearings over the past year, for policy actions that would increase even more the protections this Administration wants to give to believers to practice and spread their faith.

Having attended those hearings myself, I know these recommendations will include the freedom of prolife activists to advocate for children in danger of abortion.

Several speakers, including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, also addressed abortion funding, and the urgent need to renew the provision of law, passed last year by the Republican Congress and signed by President Trump, that stops the Medicaid funding of Planned Parenthood and the entire abortion industry.

Speakers urged the audience to remain committed, hopeful, and determined to make this happen, through a third “reconciliation bill,” which does not require 60 votes in the Senate. Just to have a third reconciliation bill is in itself an amazing accomplishment of any Congress and Presidential Administration.

The focus on winning the midterms was an obvious, strong theme of the convention. Speaker Mike Johnson spoke of his conviction that we can and will defy history by winning seats rather than losing them in this election.

This, of course, is crucial for the prolife movement.

He explained that there are several reasons for this, among with, first of all, is the extraordinary record of accomplishments that the Republican Congress and the Trump Administration have achieved in these past 18 months.

Moreover, this election is an extraordinary study in contrasts, not only looking at past accomplishments, but looking at the current candidates and at the prospects for January.

As for candidates, avowed communists, Nazi sympathizers, and haters of Jews, Christians, white people, borders, and of Western civilization are being elected in Democrat primaries. Those voters who may be disappointed with Republicans are, nevertheless, downright scared of having Democrats back in power.

As Mike Johnson and other speakers pointed out, it’s “a contrast between commonsense and crazy,” and we all have to echo that.

A Democrat House would mean constant subpoenas of prolife champions in government and elsewhere, weaponized investigations, unconstitutional impeachments, and a lot of distraction from the exciting agenda we voted for in 2024.

The role of the President in campaigning, and the advantages that the redistricting process has given our side, are among additional reasons for confidence.

In summary, one could say that the entire Road to Majority conference was about the saving of lives, from the conquering of terrorism, to the saving of children who were inhumanely brought into the country under Biden, to the securing of the border, to the ending of transgender mutilation, to the rebuilding of the economy, to the strengthening of the prolife movement, and much more.

The prolife movement has a great friend and ally in the conservative movement, and vice-versa. This key annual conference was another manifestation of that truth.
