Sometimes, no matter how awful the results, there is almost—almost–a sense of resignation when the abortion forever crowd “wins” another round. That is decidedly not the case, however, with the new Massachusetts law eviscerating not only what tiny protections existed in the Bay State but fully developed unborn babies as well. You might ask….why?
It’s not when pro-abortion Gov. Maura Healey signed An Act Prioritizing Patient Access to Care into law, she was breaking new ground. There are plenty of other states, also wholly owned subsidiaries of the pro-abortion Democrat party, whose lust for killing helpless babies is unbounded.
Nor was it the picture of “the white, privileged women who surrounded Healy breaking into peals of joy as they applauded the bill at its signing,” as Christine Flowers described the cackling horde of “feminists.” I’m sure the Democrats in my home state of Minnesota were positively raucous in 2023 when lawmakers created a “fundamental right” to abortion with no limitations at any stage in pregnancy.
[Nine Massachusetts Democrats did draw the line. “The new law is barbaric,” Democrat State Rep. Jeffrey Turco said. “This new law represents an extremist and dangerous position. …To be clear, it allows abortion anytime, unrestricted, and in many cases, publicly funded until the moment of birth.”]

So…what was it? It may be that no other state was as brazen as Massachusetts. Democrats could be utterly confident that the state media would congratulate them, rather than having even a shadow of a doubt about what state lawmakers were doing.
In her euphemism filled story, Liesel Nygard was positive giddy and a perfect representative of the “journalists” in the state [emphasis added]:
Massachusetts residents seeking reproductive care later in pregnancy may no longer need to travel out of state under a bill passed Wednesday by the state House of Representatives.
The legislation updates state laws allowing licensed physicians to determine when an abortion after 24 weeks is medically necessary, without being restricted to specific legal categories.
I know my juices flowed when I saw how several pro-lifers coupled the smiling Massachusetts crew with brief videos of Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris all indignantly denying in presidential debates that anyone would promote/accept/ let alone legalize abortion up until birth. But that’s exactly what Massachusetts did, joining nine other states entirely without any guardrails whatsoever.
As National Right to Life wrote
Previously, Massachusetts law permitted abortions after 24 weeks only when necessary to preserve the life or physical or mental health of the mother, or in cases involving a lethal or severe fetal diagnosis. The new law replaces those statutory conditions with the “professional judgment” of the physician performing the abortion—effectively allowing abortion for any reason throughout pregnancy, including when both mother and unborn child are healthy.
Also, as Flowers observed, it was impossible to hide what they were doing—as if Democrats had any intention of bothering to mask what they were doing.
We are not talking about a first-trimester abortion, which to me is still murder but which somehow satisfies the conscience of most Americans. We are talking about a woman and her enabling physician who wait until minutes before a child will be born to decide there’s a need to crush her into pieces.
The idea that this could not have been contemplated even weeks or days prior is incomprehensible.
This is nothing less than infanticide dressed up as health care. This is the final step in a rushing mudslide down the hills and into the valleys of barbarism.
You know which prior societies condoned this? The Aztecs, who saw the child as a sacrifice.
Bishop Robert Barron is a prominent American Roman Catholic prelate who currently serves as the bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota. He tweeted:
The governor of Massachusetts just signed into law a statute that permits abortion up until the moment of birth, as long as mother and doctor give the go-ahead.
Please understand what this means. A fully-formed child, moments before exiting the birth canal, can be eviscerated, chopped into pieces, have its head crushed or skin burned off—all under the full protection of Massachusetts law.
What I found particularly gross was the reaction of the entirely female crowd around the female governor of Massachusetts as she signed this barbaric provision into law. They were clapping and cackling with delight because what can only be called infanticide can now be practiced with impunity in their state.
Flowers’s conclusion captured what was at stake perfectly and what we must do in the face of such barbarism:
What we have done since the days of Margaret Sanger is dehumanize inconvenient lives, those that are less perfect, the wrong IQ or race or gender. Eugenics, the foundational source of abortion policy.
That, and the sick idea that one human can control another.
This was on full display in Massachusetts, as they celebrated their new blank check to erase babies on their “birth” days. And don’t let them tell you it’s health care. The babies, if they could speak, would disagree.
So we will speak for them.
