They Cheered Abortions Up to Birth, And They Want More

I watched a clip of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signing the bill legalizing abortion up to the moment of birth. It felt completely surreal. A group of women stood around her, applauding. The thought that came to mind was “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.”

Healey claims that her opponents are standing against women. The total opposite is true. When a woman grieves the loss of a child to abortion, the depth of pain can be intense. Research also tells us that a majority of women who have had abortions felt pressured to do so–in other words, they are not making a free choice.

And then there are the baby girls who are killed in abortion. A late-term abortion is the ultimate form of child abuse, which can happen disproportionately to females. The thought of these precious children being torn limb by limb from their mothers’ wombs is positively revolting.

It is also disturbing that the abortion-up-to-the-moment-of-birth scenario appears to be a trend. In my Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a proposed Constitutional Amendment would mean abortion without limits.

The answer to this frightening situation is not wailing and grinding of teeth. It is education. I believe most people do not know the full implications of such legislation, including the women who rally behind it.

So stay calm and carry on, knowing that babies and mothers are depending on us to right these egregious wrongs. Life can win in the end, if we are willing to work for it.
