Top UN Pro-Life Lobbyist Jeanne Head Passes Away

National Right to Life mourns the passing of Jeanne Head, R.N., Vice President of International Affairs and a tireless advocate for the protection of innocent human life. Ms. Head passed away today after years of faithful service to the pro-life movement.

An obstetric nurse, Jeanne Head worked in the field for 44 years, including 32 years at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan.

For decades, Ms. Head served National Right to Life and New York State Right to Life in numerous leadership roles. She represented New York on the National Right to Life Board of Directors and served as Vice President for International Affairs for National Right to Life and represented both National Right to Life and the International Right to Life Federation at the United Nations. Ms. Head was a steadfast voice defending the dignity of every human being and opposing efforts to establish abortion as an international human right.

“Jeanne Head devoted her life to defending those who could not defend themselves,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Whether she was working with pro-life leaders across the United States or representing National Right to Life at the United Nations, Jeanne never lost sight of the inherent dignity of every human life. She possessed unwavering conviction, extraordinary courage, and a deep compassion for both mothers and their children. We are profoundly grateful for her decades of faithful service and will greatly miss her friendship, wisdom, and witness.”

Ms. Head once said, “The pro-life movement is made up of ordinary people doing extraordinary things with God’s help. We can make a difference. We have no idea what we can do until we try.”

Throughout her life, Ms. Head was known for her willingness to speak the truth with both conviction and sincerity. She tirelessly challenged efforts to redefine human rights in ways that excluded the unborn child and worked to ensure that voices representing the world’s most vulnerable were heard in international forums.

“National Right to Life extends its deepest condolences to Jeanne’s family, friends, and the countless pro-life advocates around the world whose lives she touched,” said Tobias. “We give thanks for a life faithfully lived in service to others and pray that her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to defend the dignity of every member of the human family.”
