Trump-Backed Candidates Sweep Arizona Republican Primaries

President Trump put his name on the line in Arizona. Republican voters delivered.

Trump-backed candidates swept the state’s biggest Republican primaries Tuesday, showcasing the president’s continued power to shape the GOP ticket from the governor’s race down through key congressional contests.

The biggest victory belonged to Rep. Andy Biggs.

The former House Freedom Caucus chairman crushed Rep. David Schweikert and the rest of the Republican field by more than 50 points, securing the GOP nomination for governor.

Biggs will now challenge Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who ran unopposed in her primary. Hobbs narrowly won the governorship four years ago, but she will face one of Trump’s most prominent congressional allies this November.

Trump’s winning streak continued in Arizona’s competitive 1st Congressional District.

Former NFL kicker Jay Feely captured the Republican nomination after receiving the president’s backing during the closing stretch of the campaign.

Feely is now headed into a critical general election battle for the open Phoenix-area seat being vacated by Schweikert. Democrats had not yet settled on a nominee early Wednesday, with former state Rep. Amish Shah leading an uncalled primary.

Former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb gave Trump another victory in Arizona’s reliably Republican 5th District.

Lamb won the nomination to replace Biggs in Congress and enters the general election as the favorite in the deep-red district.

Trump-backed Rep. Juan Ciscomani also advanced in Arizona’s 6th District after running unopposed.

The results gave Trump a clean sweep across Arizona’s marquee Republican contests. Biggs, Feely, Lamb and Ciscomani are all moving forward with the president’s endorsement behind them.

Trump celebrated the victories with a post on TRUTH Social.
