A U.S. Army captain in Washington state has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after secretly giving the abortion drug mifepristone to a pregnant woman without her knowledge.
The woman was a junior enlisted soldier serving under him, and she was carrying his baby.
According to court records, Capt. Brandon Jones-Adams admitted to intentionally causing the death of his unborn child. He also pleaded guilty to domestic violence, fraternization, and conduct unbecoming of an officer. As part of a plea agreement, he received the longest prison sentence allowed.

The two met in November 2024 and began a consensual relationship. Several months later, while they were both serving in South Korea, the woman became pregnant. They later returned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, where the events leading to the crime unfolded.
On Aug. 21, 2025, the woman was at home when Jones-Adams poured her a drink. After she finished it, she noticed something unusual left in the bottom of the cup. She immediately feared that he had secretly put something in her drink.
Not long after, she began suffering severe cramping.
Concerned, she rushed to the military emergency room. There, she tragically lost her baby at about 13 weeks of pregnancy.
Investigators later learned that Jones-Adams had secretly put the abortion drug mifepristone into her drink. He admitted that he had tried several times to get the drug and eventually bought it online using a fake name.
“Capt. Jones-Adams’ actions were deliberate, calculated, and malicious. By committing these crimes, he inflicted profound harm on his victim and betrayed the trust placed in him as an Army officer. Today’s sentence holds him accountable for his conduct and provides a measure of justice and closure for those harmed,” said Circuit Chief Lt. Col. Tyler Heimann.
“What Mr. Jones-Adams did was a disgusting act that killed an unborn child and violated the victim’s trust and autonomy in the most personal way,” said Special Agent in Charge Michele Starostka of Army CID’s Western Field Office. “When someone crosses that line, we will throw every resource we have into the investigation and make sure they face full accountability.”
If abortion pill providers truly care about women, why are stories like this so often ignored?
This is not the only baby who has been killed by abortion pills. This woman is not the only victim of unknowingly taking them. There have been many cases like hers, including some in Texas.
Babies deserve to be protected. Women deserve to be protected. These tragedies should never happen.
Right now, a federal law already bans abortion pills from being sent through the mail. But the Trump administration is not enforcing that law.
That can change if enough Americans speak up.
