UN Humanitarian Agency Uses Funds to Promote Killing Babies in Abortions

The United Nations agency responsible for emergency humanitarian assistance is channeling U.S. taxpayer dollars to organizations that promote abortion

That is happening even as the Trump administration has imposed new restrictions intended to block funding for groups involved in such activities, according to a report released this week from CFAM.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA, continues to direct American funds to groups advancing abortion, gender ideology and diversity, equity and inclusion programs abroad, the Center for Family and Human Rights reported. The funding has raised questions about whether the administration has quietly granted OCHA a waiver from the expanded Mexico City Policy, which prohibits U.S. support for foreign organizations that promote or perform abortions.

A new transparency portal for OCHA’s funding shows grants flowing to several major international aid groups, including UN agencies themselves as well as the Norwegian Refugee Council, Plan International, Care International and the International Rescue Committee. In Nigeria, the SAHAEI Gender Development Initiative received two grants totaling $410,000 over the last year.

The grants were implemented by FreeFrom, a U.S.-based organization that describes itself as “a proudly feminist national organization led by queer, trans, immigrant, and BIPOC survivors” and lists preferred pronouns for its staff.

The initial tranche of funding was released before the administration announced its new rules blocking support for groups promoting abortion. A subsequent $1.8 billion payment to OCHA last month has intensified concerns about a possible exemption for the agency. A British think tank reported that a waiver had been granted for OCHA funds.

On May 14, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Under Secretary Jeremy Lewin appeared at UN headquarters to announce the additional funding. Waltz defended the U.S. commitment, declaring, “There’s this narrative out there in the media space that the United States has walked away. That is absolutely false. It’s fake news.”

He added that the money would address only the most urgent needs: “These funds are for victims of natural disasters, for tsunamis, for earthquakes, for famine, people who are truly in critical need.”

Pro-life advocates argue that American tax dollars should not underwrite any activities that result in the killing of unborn babies, regardless of the humanitarian label attached to the programs.

As of Friday according to CFAM, the administration had not publicly confirmed or denied the existence of a waiver for OCHA.
