Hunter Biden’s new meme coin produced one very big winner.
Almost everyone else got crushed.
Blockchain analysis commissioned by The New York Post found that roughly four out of five $LAPTOP buyers were sitting on losses after Wednesday’s chaotic launch, when the token rocketed higher and then collapsed by more than 99% from its peak.

One pseudonymous trader moved in early with roughly $250,000, acquiring 9,124 tokens before unloading most of them minutes later for about $1.18 million, according to Datavault AI.
Estimated gain before transaction costs: about $930,000.
Another buyer had the opposite experience.
Datavault’s analysis found that one wallet put roughly $200,000 into $LAPTOP near its brief high and watched the position fall to around $2,000 as the price collapsed.
“That’s the tragedy in these coins,” Datavault AI CEO Nathaniel Bradley told The Post.
The volatility was extraordinary even by meme-coin standards.
Market data showed $LAPTOP briefly trading in the hundreds of dollars before falling to only a few dollars within hours. Different exchanges and analytics platforms recorded somewhat different peak prices because the token initially traded in thin decentralized markets, but all showed essentially the same trajectory: a rapid surge followed by a roughly 98% to 99% collapse.
The team behind $LAPTOP says there was another explanation.
Project representatives blamed sniper bots and thin initial liquidity, arguing automated traders bought immediately after launch and distorted the market before ordinary buyers could enter. The team denied insiders received preferential access and said additional liquidity incentives would be added.
That distinction matters because Bradley used the term “classic rug pull” to describe the trading pattern. A rug pull ordinarily implies project insiders extracted value and abandoned other investors.
So far, there is no public evidence that Hunter Biden personally sold his locked tokens, profited from the crash or orchestrated a fraudulent scheme. Founder tokens representing 30% of the supply were reportedly locked for at least six months.
