ICE Nabs Murderers, Child Sex Offenders and Drug Traffickers in July 4 Holiday Immigration Sweep

Federal immigration authorities spent the Independence Day weekend rounding up illegal immigrants with convictions ranging from murder and kidnapping to child sex crimes and drug trafficking, the Trump administration announced Monday.

The Department of Homeland Security said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers carried out enforcement operations across the country while many Americans celebrated the nation’s 250th birthday, arresting numerous illegal immigrants with lengthy criminal records.

“While Americans celebrated the 250th anniversary of the greatest nation on Earth, the brave men and women of ICE were arresting the worst of the worst, including multiple murderers, pedophiles, rapists, kidnappers, drunk drivers, drug traffickers, and other dangerous public safety threats,” DHS acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said in a statement.

“Our law enforcement officers work around the clock, even on holidays, to make our communities safer.”

Bis also highlighted the rapid expansion of ICE’s ranks under President Donald Trump, saying the agency has hired roughly 12,000 new officers and agents in less than a year, more than doubling its workforce.

“Thanks to President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill, we have an additional 12,000 ICE officers who will continue delivering on the American people’s mandate to make our nation SAFE AGAIN,” she said.

Among those arrested was Panamanian national Radimir Thompson-Nagle, who has convictions for murder and assault in Brooklyn, New York, according to ICE.

Authorities also arrested Mexican national Marcos Rubio-Hernandez, who was previously convicted of second-degree murder and kidnapping in North Carolina.

Another Mexican national, Roberto Gutierrez-Diaz, has convictions including sodomy involving a child younger than 12, sexual abuse of a child younger than 12, attempted rape tied to domestic violence, and burglary, according to DHS.

Federal officials also identified Francisco Olmedo-Silva, a Mexican citizen with convictions in Oregon, Wyoming and Pennsylvania for drug trafficking, conspiracy to distribute heroin, robbery and escaping from custody.

Meanwhile, Cuban national Pedro Mazorra-Herrera was taken into custody after prior convictions that include aggravated stalking, burglary with assault or battery, resisting an officer with violence and cocaine possession in Florida.

The announcement comes as the Trump administration continues to prioritize deportations of illegal immigrants with criminal convictions while escalating its legal and political battles with sanctuary jurisdictions that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
